Maybe the cash-strapped U.S. government should start selling iPads.
According to the latest statement from the U.S. Treasury, the government had an operating cash balance Wednesday of $73.8 billion. That's still a lot of money, but it's less than what Steve Jobs has lying around.
Tech juggernaut Apple had a whopping $76.2 billion in cash and marketable securities at the end of June, according to its last earnings report. Unlike the U.S. government, which is scrambling to avoid defaulting on its debt, Apple takes in more money than it spends.
This symbolic feat - the world's most highly valued tech company surpassing the fiscal strength of the world's most powerful nation - is just the latest pinnacle for Apple, which has been on an unprecedented roll.
There's been a lot of speculation about what Apple might buy with its piles of cash - Facebook and Sony being two of the more high-profile examples - but the company doesn't seem to be in any hurry to make a move.
Offering Uncle Sam a short-term loan is probably not one of them.

That's amazing to think that a company that is monitored by the government actually makes more money than it haha. Maybe Apple can help out the government now!

Apple is not alone. There are more companies who are loaded. They can donate a small sum for setting up a fund that helps create jobs.
But why would fascists help the regular people?
Yeah they're called "Microsoft" and "SARCOM" and if you ask either one for so much as another penny, they will move to China!
fyi: All religions have fnataics with such anecdotal and nonsensical examples . The human mind is one to look for similarities to the extreme, especially when trying to give support to one's preconceived beliefs. Again: religion has ZERO evidence, that is why it is called faith .And I'm sorry, but the more you spout your anti-science rhetoric, the more clearly your ignorance shines. We have great brain imaging technologies that have advanced and are continuing to advance exponentially. With fMRI scans, we can indeed take images of your brain while you are thinking and find out the ways your neural networks connect, bond, and exchange information. So, yes, we we can explain how and why such connections take place for people who appreciate such things. Other people form such magnificence and awe with the wonders of the cosmos. To me, that is quite more fascinating and gives me more awe for the cosmos and the universe. We are simply a speck of dust in the vast expanse of the universe.
Just goes to show things like NASA should be a private commercial venture. Apple could spend way more than the government.
I'm surprised, actually, that the moon doesn't read 'microsoft' already..
But then Apple gets its wealth from "revenue". They wouldn't be nearly as wealthy if they were only getting paid to fight our wars, rescue us in times of emergency, protect us from crime, make sure that airplanes were built and flown safely etc...
Ask any soldier... Freedom can cost you "an arm and a leg".
This is great! They should be able to single handedly put the nation back to work if the formula for jobs is as those on the right tell us: Money in the hands of corporations + great product = jobs. If the real formula for jobs is: Money in the hands of consumers + great product = jobs we may still have 9%+ unemployment tomorrow.
That's like comparing apples to oranges.
Apple should help the government
