How many chickens on Earth?

There are 19 billion chickens on the planet according to the United Nations. The Nation with the highest chicken to human ratio is Bahrain. The gulf nation apparently has 40 chickens for every person, much more than a chicken in every pot. I wonder how they figure this stuff out.

Have any surprising facts of your own? Please share below (with the source).

Fareed mentioned on Sunday that for every person in Bahrain, there are 40 chickens. That can be true. My speculation: Bahrain has many Persian residents who are successful businessmen. Persians love chickens and especially chicken Kabob. In the past 30 years or so many Persians in Bahrain and the Persian Gulf area went to chicken production businesses. Bahrain did not have this kind of industry before, therefore they welcomed the idea and now to the world’s surprise we see that chicken producing factories are booming and as a result provide excessively per capita. I incline to believe this!
Thank you Fareed for your excellent program!

My guess is NO that part of the world holds on to what they have for them selves an leaves it up to some one else to come to the rescue of others.

    I find these interesting:
    1. There are probably more stars in the universe than grains of sand on the earth.
    2. Blue birds aren't really blue; they just look blue.
    3. Oysters can change their gender when needed.

    I think the count was a bit low: 19 billion + 436 = 19,000,000,436

If the United Nations counted the 19 billion, Fareed should have added the 436 that were not counted and missed in Washington.
