Bakshi: Americans most admire Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton

By Amar C. Bakshi, CNN

According to a Gallup poll released Tuesday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama retain their place in the eyes of Americans as the Most Admired Woman and Most Admired Man on Earth living today.

This marks the tenth year in a row that Hillary Clinton has been the Most Admired Woman and the fourth year in a row that Barack Obama has been named the Most Admired Man.

Seventeen percent of poll respondents mentioned Hillary Clinton as the woman they admired most, followed by 7% who named Oprah Winfrey and 5% who named Michelle Obama.  Other leading women included Sarah Palin, Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush, Margaret Thatcher, Ellen DeGeneres and Michele Bachmann.

Hillary Clinton has been named Most Admired Woman 16 times since 1993 – more times than any other woman since the poll was first conducted in 1948. Eleanor Roosevelt finished first as Most Admired Woman 13 times.

Seventeen percent of poll respondents mentioned Barack Obama as the man they admired most, followed by 3% mentioning George W. Bush and 2% mentioning Bill Clinton.  Other leading men this year included the Reverend Billy Graham, Warren Buffett, Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump, Pope Benedict XVI and Bill Gates.

The Reverend Billy Graham has been named among the top 10 most admired men alive more than any other man – 55 times since 1955.

Yes! Question the polls. So how come you people didn't question the polls when the republican owned and operated mainstream media was conducting polls in your red states and saying most Americans didn't wish for comprehensive healthcare? When President Obama ran for office, healthcare reform was part of his agenda and if the American people who elected him to office didn't want healthcare reform, they would have voted for McCain but they didn't. And all those banner toting anti-Obamacare protesters near the White House never did identified themselves as Democrats or Liberals. No, they were all republicans and teabag activists. So now you want to question polls when for three years they have been misleading and been in your favor? Please take a hike.

When President Obama gets elected the square one you're referring to is far better than the square one your former president gave to America. That is two deadly and costly wars and the worst economic crisis in America since the Great Depression. And again, how many Americans have died as a result of the policies of the Obama administration? Zero! And under Bush? tens of thousands in Iraq and Afghanistan and thousands of our troops. And you people say your hate and dislike for President Obama has nothing to do with race? Yea right.

Hillary met Bill when they were both dating the same girl in college. Obama can't run next year as he is going to be a spokesman for Church's.

Moscow has endorsed the Democratic Socialist Party favorites of Clinton and Obama. I guess that means they will run, but at question is who will be on top (or Pres, VP).

    Dear CNN,
I couldn't help but notice you decided to exclude only one of the most admired men from that poll: Thomas Monson.

Correction, please. Americans vote for most admired Americans in America. To say that Americans vote for most admired people on earth means that only Americans people the earth and everyone, I like to believe including Americans, know that that is not true.

The sitting president has won the last 31 years in a row. If he had ANY integrity he would mention that. So, sorry to burst your bubble liberals, but GW Bush won it every year he was president too. I recognize Hillary Clinton is admired, heck anybody that would stay with Bill after all those Lewinski's in the office, has to be admired no matter what.

I would say the Gallup Poll results have been misrepresented. While Mrs Clinton and President Obama may in fact have the highest percentages, I would hesitate to say that 17% equals "most admired". It would appear that their showing in this poll is probably on a par with their public approval ratings.

Please notice that my comments remained on topic with the story. It's no wonder the US Congress is unable to legislate effectively when Americans seem to be so fixated on making "GOP vs Obama" and "whose mess is this" the topic of every discussion. I guess our elected officials are doing a much better job of representing our views/opinions than one might think.

Hope the majority of Americans will vote for Obama. He inherited huge problems at home and abroad. He is serving his country with dignity, with compassion and great tolerance in the face of almost intolerable internal pressure. He is an example to all of us around the world and a source of faith in the human race. God bless America in the hour of choosing!

For people who follow International Politics, Obama and clinton deserve to win, hands down. History will record how the two have systematically sorted out the US mess in foreign policy and restored sanity. Their vision a) use Turkey as the role model to spread secular values amongst Islamic parties, post Arab Spring,b) withdraw from Iraq, but safeguard US interests by creation of an independent Kurdistan, where Oil exists, c)establish US interests in Africa to displace China's power, d) Curb China's power by creation of the Pacific Trade Agreement and finally open up Noth Korea and Myanmar, which will cut back china's clout. I am convinced that the US will secure a peace settlement in Afghanistan and also sort out Pakistan. Bravo,Obama/Clinton!
