I'm very interested in what Alan Simpson will say. I believe that if anyone BUT Mitt Romney is nominated, many prominent republicans, like Mr Simpson will jump ship and support Pres Obama. Like Colin Powell did last time.
I agree. I think Alan Simpson speaks what most Americans feel right now. Most people are moderate and are seeking that in a candidate.
The first time I heard Alan Simpson speak. Despite his 80 years he still makes a good impression. Many who are half his age are not even half as sensible.
Alan Simpson seems to have reconciled the view of abortion as being undesirable to any reasonable human being, with eliminating the shame and government interference in personal decisions. He might actually pass the mental health exam we need to subject anyone to who wishes to be president, BEFORE, they rent a campaign bus.
It's late, but I'll post anyway; Why should we need a write in campaign for a mentally healthy view. A pity. It relies on every child's critical thinking skills and culture that passes those down through generations. Education used to be our cultural vessel.

The USA may say that it will make dramatic cuts to its military but they will never cut back enough to jeopardize USA's global security.

Enjoyed your Fixing Education special. Please take another look at Kohn Academy. Everything you reported is true, BUT the content of his material is trivial low-level, mostly useless math. He fails to include true problem solving, reasoning, and the higher cognitive level math skills needed in today and tomorrow's world.

What a breath of fresh air!!! I'd vote for Alan Simpson in a heartbeat. We mourned the disregard of his recommendations to the current administration. He gives a strong dose of reality without the sugar...that's a diet we as a country need to follow.
daorgnstorm83 on October 27, 2008 I test drove the car. It has a lot of power. a smooth ride. I liked the cloth seats better than the leather. The 3.3L engine is smoother than the 3.8L. I wish they would put sunroofs in all their models though. I don't want 4×4, but I would have to get the LX 4×4 to get a sunroof with the 3.3L engine. The alpine gray is the best color in my opinion. The black interior is the best, also. The Borrego is NICE, but I just don't need all that power; it is worth a look. Kia and Hyundai are coming up.

Surely you've read the Project for the New American Century's publication 'Rebuilding America's defenses'. The Republicans' stated plan has been to fight two major wars simultaneously, without regard to any budgetary restraints. This plan was signed on to by every major player in George W Bush's administration, and it was their attempt to carry out this unrealistic and predictably disasterous plan that put our country into the horrible position we are in now.
Maybe, instead of asking questions about this to people intelligent enough to know better, you should ask Republicans who plan on continuing that policy to expose their mind-bogglingly dangerous positions.

Our Prime Minister, Stephen Harper of Canada< has decided that Iran is the greatest threat to world peace. As far as I can recall, Iran has been involved in one war – a defensive struggle against an aggressive Iraq – in the last generation.
A list of American foreign military action during the same time is extensive. Perhaps many of those were justified, but certainly not all. The world is not a peaceful place and perhaps your country has had more than its fair share in contributing to this state of affairs.

I agree- Please post the ENTIRE interview with Sen Simpson. I was at an airport today where this show was foist upon a crowd of waiting people. Very few people were watching the tv when your interview with Sen Simpson started. By the time it was over, there were about 40-50 people watching him speak. Almost all were laughing and nodding and longing for more of that common sense reasoning and willingness to make compromises and get things done in a reasonable manner.

I really liked the interview and would like to tell the Senator that this democrat would vote for him.
The Alan Simpson interview was superb–he gives the Republican moniker credibility–too bad his thinking is shared by so few in today's current Republican party. Re; the panel on Iran. Once again, a reasonable, non-biased and solid discussion on this critical topic–except for??? Who else, Brett Stephens. I fail to understand why Fareed invites this individual back so frequently. His bias is so apparent and clearly limits his ability to interact with any level of objectivity. Each time I hear him speak I find myself asking, "Whose interests is he expressing–the United States or those of Israel?" I understand well that Israel is our ally and we need to act accordingly. But this does not mean go to war when there is no direct threat to the United States. When can we begin a legitimate dialogue on this topic without being called anti-semitic? The long term strategic interests of the United States are not in exact lock-step with those of Israel, period. When are we going to make this acknowledgement and begin a reasonable dialogue before we find ourselves once again in a war that we have no business being in.

Q: FIRSTLY, are we willing to trust Iran with Nuclear weapons?
A: No way! Else risk having a volatile ME brimming with nukes in tha hands of unstable Islamic radical regimes!

Q: Can we let diplomacy go on right until the point Iran gets nukes?
