I know for a fact, for a darn fact, that the majority of people in Iran want the country to assimilate with the world. It is the conservative hard-liners and religious nuts of that country that preach hatred and misunderstanding.

If the U.S. is doing that well, and even Turkey added more jobs, then who is getting all that money? Certainly not the average person; maybe it is all in the pockets of Romney, Gingrich, Paul, and Santorum, or at least their best friends.

Gee do you think that borrowing a TRILLION DOLLARS to fight the Iraq war and then keeping interest rates low to pay all those plumbers electricians and masons in a housing distortion so they could continue to be in the middle class in what was the largest welfare expenditure our country has ever seen or maybe the mother of all welfare systems which is keeping government employees like soldiers cops and firefighters who aren't productive enough to earn their wages and benefits, do you think THOSE things had anything to do with us having a wrecked economy? PULEEZ, giving token welfare to some ghetto kids did it? Acorn? Wanting low income, no credit people to be homeowners did it? Try all the non-college educated "service" government employees who don't manufacture anything to export tht we pay for their salaries, benefits, kids benefits, education, health care etc. until the day they die. You know who I'm talking about- cops firefighters emts soldiers border patrol coast guard etc etc etc etc. You think Romney will cut any of those jobs too? Those sacred cows? I dont think so. And we will mudde along with these massive government expenditures and people like you will blame Acorn and won't want to cut a single penny from defense. You're right, this country is going down the tubes, but you haven't got the balls to admit the real reasons why.

Our annual $2.4 Trillion in social programs is no "token welfare to ghetto kids." Income security programs, retirement insurance, medicaid, medicare, school subsidies, and community relief programs are expensive as hell. These are many times larger than our military spending, and in fact way more expensive than the rest of our government spending combined. It is, in fact, impossible to reduce our debt as long as we have these social programs, because they consume more money - before we even consider the other government expenditures - than our entire annual tax receipts.

        February 6, 2012 at 2:51 pm |
    • Brahman

Dumlord, you are simply wrong. The US spends about the same on social programs as other leading industrialized nations. 16% of GDP. The issue we should be concerned with is how much we get out of that 16%. Why do other countries have free universal healthcare from that 16% where we do not? The debt comes from somewhere else. It is a nice myth, and very convenient to blame social programs, but the fact is that it is just not true. http://www.politicususa.com/en/debt-social-programs

Exactly. For all of you who think Obama is doing such a bad job, look at what he inherited from Bush. The worst economy since the great depression, 2 wars...
The fact that things even stabilzed and are beginning to turn around is a credit to his administration.
If another Republican had one the election, we would have sunk in a depression for sure.
Americans are so short-sighted. They believed Obama would come in and wave his magic wand and everything would be better. When it didn't happen, they labled him a failure.
Things are improving, and will continue to steadily improve as long as he is re-elected.
If Romney wins... Game over. We're done.

You do have some good points. I did not vote for Bush his second term, but I sure am not going to vote for Obama his second term. An indecisive leader. He over spent $6 trillion dollars in the first three years in office. He is way to liberal for me. He is more concerned with the perception of Muslims and the advancement of gay rights, then with the good of America. So, no vote from me.

That has to be a first, Qatari. A conservative wanting to restrict access to firearms, and you worry about the Dems touching your guns? Forget the fact that the federal government has refused to take away your guns regardless of the party in charge. Sometimes I forget that the Tea Party only wants the government out of their lives when it benefits them. It's more than acceptable to regulate everyone else's lives in that twisted little world view. Sometimes I wonder why I'm still a conservative. People like you really screw up our reputation.

Oh, you forgot that In January 2009, the national debt stood at $10.6 trillion. Fueled by the so-called stimulus, this debt grew by $3.6 trillion in just two years. The magnitude of this amount is difficult to grasp without a comparison. Under Mr. Obama, government has been borrowing $4.6 billion each and every day. Try again.

We are bankrupt because of the two wars in which we netted in minus billions and made China our financial boss.. We are now financing the whopping deficit by using our retirement money at very little cost because the Central Bank is giving money free to banks and market. We do not know if this would work. If it works we will get out of bankruptcy in about 5 years. Till then our savings are worth nothing. Before war we shared almost 30 percent of world economy. Now may be 15%.

Right, Left, Center, Fringe, R, D, or something else politically if is still important if you are going to spout off your comments to base it on basic facts. No one "made up" the GDP numbers, no one "made up" budgets, facts – remain facts.

Why is it that every single time I read an article on CNN that maybe has even the tiniest amount to do with politics there are so many people who are bashing one political party and others bashing the other party? I wonder how all of these bloggers are so incredibly smart that they KNOW what caused every problem and how to fix every problem and know that the party that they don't like is the one to blame. It gets very tiring to read that over and over again. For now on, I think I need to quit reading these blogs. Too many people on here that are much smarter than me.

Does it really matter? I remember a Peanuts cartoon about Snoopy jogging. As he jogged, the arms started arguing with the head and legs about who was the most important and which part of the body was doing the most work. After a lot of debate, the heart suddenly shouted, "Everyone shut up or I'll quit!!"

A couple of frams of silent running ensued, then the brain said, "That's scary". The reality is that no matter how much or how little the actual percent of the world's economy belongs to the US, if we "quit" it will be a scary world.

America's main export is war, it's big money and big business. I was raised as a Pacifist and I can't understand why so many of my fellow Americans seemingly aren't horrified by all the innocent people that are slaughtered around the world by our government. This fact, and knowing that the government is now run by corporations instead of the voters, makes me feel despair about the future. Wow, if I ran the world, I'd do everything I could do to have peace and equality. I have my degree in Literature and Literature majors tend to be Idealists but I know there must be other Idealists out there so that offers me some comfort. This is my personal opinion anyway.

America went down the tubes immediately after all those tax cuts for the wealthy who were supposed to create jobs"in this country".We were doing fine until then,"social programs and all".Tax cuts for the wealthy do not work. The wealthy put their tax cuts in Swiss bank accounts, outsourced the jobs and hired illegal immigrants to do their gardening.Don't even try to shift the blame to Obama and "socialism. It's the wealthy little snits that inherited money from daddy that do all this crying about "handouts"to the poor. Those who never had to deal with poverty seem to be the greediest.Too much money in the hands of a few is what is corrupting congress, the supreme court, banks and wall street. We always had socisl programs and America was great. And for all so-called religious conservatives,Jesus, Moses,Mohammed and the rest of them were all socialists so don't spout your religious crap at the same time you turn your back on the poor.Obama 4 more years.Tax the rich at the old
