Zürich is not the "world's most expensive city", it's LUANDA, the dusty Angolan capital, where a house can be $10,000 a month to rent, a basic meal out for two is easily $50, a hotel room can cost $400 a night and a kilo of imported tomatoes a staggering $16. The streets are potholed, chaotic and still scarred by decades of civil war. The city has little of the glitz and glamour of London or New York. An estimated half of Angolans live on less than $2 a day despite its oil resourcs.

Estonia's growth is the envy of many European leaders. The country was badly hit during a financial crisis that struck the Baltic states in 2008-9, when a property bubble burst, causing the economy to shrink and unemployment to surge to 18%. The formula of growth focusses on export, away from domestic consumption – which fuelled the boom years. The government signaled to private companies to cut expenses and labour costs. Estonia has by far the lowest national debt in the EU – 6.7% in 2010, thanks to the efforts of the successive governments that have focused on balancing the budget rather than spending more in the good times, unlike most other European countries. Its best-known export is the technology firm Skype. Started life there in 2002, the company is now owned by Microsoft and employs 400 people at the Tallinn site.

Yes, its Europe especially Germany at present. But at before, USA is the greatest in term of economic stability. Why do USA 's economic crisis is at hand now? Its because of its spending of billions of dollar in war games not thinking their economic growth while China and Russia are laughing during the war games initiated by US. Why? Look at China and Russia now, are there economy shrinking? The best way how could the US regain its economic glory is to conquer China's economic influence to the whole world by lowering every single products they have exported everywhere so that it could be easily sold therefore every US CITIZEN could find JOB anytime, anywhere in the US just like me, my son, a registered Nurse is planning to migrate in the USA. If anybody could my son, I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

I would say Americas favorite country is Israel by the way we are always kissing their behinds and going to bat for them. Where were they for us in Afganistan, Iraq ect?

Well, stupid, I'll tell you where. When Americans were being killed by IEDs in their unarmored vehicles, Israel not only stepped in to armor them, it even gave up units scheduled for delivery to the IDF to supply America first. When Americans had to go into cities and do urban fighting, they relied on Israel's experience to minimize both their own and civilian casulaties. Israel also supplied UAVs to the US and led the way in their use in today's asymmetrical warfare.
There are many, many other items but I'not going to write a 10,000 word post to some wise -ss anti-Semite like yourself.

I think that feeling that Israel is the most favored nation is based upon good sound information. How many dollars does it receive both in military and civilan funds from the US. Some of which is not public and not traceable thru the budget process. What benefits does an Israel citizen derive from the USA funding at the expense of its own citizens. Pointing this out does not make one a "wise-ss-anti-Semite". It makes one someone who is paying attention to foreign affairs.

David, you're the one who is an idiot. Nothing he said was anti-semite. Of course, that's the only rebuttal you people that support this unjustifiably massive support for this one particular country can ever come up with.

        February 20, 2012 at 7:14 pm |
      • Proud American

Exactly David, nothing said was anti-semite so why would you jump to that assumption? Look at countries like Canada, Britian and Australia who have always supported our causes and have always had our backs. We dont give them a fraction of the money, support or power that we do to Israel. All l am saying is take care of the countries that take care and give back to us.
So get off your soap box David, dry your eyes and do a little research. We as Americans mean nothing to the average Israeli

Being anti-Israel does not make one an anti-Semite. They are not one in the same. Actually Christian Zionists may be the most anti-Semitic people. The are friends with Isreal only as long as Israel is willing to be a tool for them to bring about their dispensationalist end-times scenario at which point they believe most Jews will be destroyed.

        Proud,
You do realize that if Israel put one person on Arab soil, that would cause the rest of the middle east to turn against the U.S. The only way the U.S could get these nations Saudi, Egypt, Afghanistan, Pakistan, not to mention Turkey and Jordan to go along with the actions we take in the middle east is to agree that Israel WILL NOT enter the fight physically. They can and do give material support, training, logistic and survailance assistance. There is a lot most people don't want to know and there is even more most people don't know.

But I'm wondering why you think we do all this for Israel in the first place. I'm very interested in hearing why you think it.

        Thanks,

I enjoy these quizzes, but am always amazed as some of the choices compared to questions not asked. For example, does it mean I know more about the important things going on in the world if I know about who built a Hong Kong politician's wine cellar? That's more important than, for example, the recently signed agreement between the US and Mexico over deep water oil fields that straddle their border?

I just did the quize and failed in most of the questions outside of my geographic area and my general knowledge (macro) on economics. This just reminded me that I should not be a loud mouth of matters that I am not daily and intematelly connected with. One answer to one question was clear though. I was not paying attention to the world. I do not have the potential to do so nor the time. Now, I shall tell my point of view on which country America favours most... It is not a country but a geological formation. It is whereever USA can get easy oil; and any country related with it that it can use to achieve its goal. This is not a special case for USA or oil. The same story repeated itself on "WHALE OIL"; "COAL" and now PETROLEUM. When in ice ages this was the most favoured hunting grounds. This is the human nature.

America was already in a great corruption when President Obama entered the office. Obama is doing a great a job trying to fill up the cups that has been dried up for a "only God knows how long". If I was a US citizen I would vote for Mr. B. Obama.

I don't think the debt issue is primarily due to Obama. A lot of this was setup from previous presidents and the choices they made on the economy, trade agreements, etc. Although, I do agree that obama has been spending way too much on things we can not afford. He needs to stop giving people freebies. But again, the job market is horrible due to trading policies set up from previous presidents. It is hard to weigh. I think some of things he proposes is allowable or acceptable but others on like universal health care and so on, is troubling.
