Day by day, it seems the world is watching the situation in Syria deteriorate, especially after a massacre in Houla over the weekend that left more than 100 people dead, half of them children.
Fareed Zakaria spoke recently with CNN's John King about the international efforts to stop the violence and what options President Obama has. Here's an edited transcript:
KING: I want to start with the criticism from the Republican nominee-to-be, Mitt Romney. He says there's a paralysis in the Obama White House when it comes to this. His adviser, Norm Coleman, has said that the president is hiding behind Kofi Annan, that he's too reliant that the Russians will somehow come in later and save the day. Valid points?
ZAKARIA: I think it is mostly political, to be honest, because most of what Gov. Romney is attacking President Obama for is a kind of unspecified lack of assertiveness, that we should be tougher and we should somehow force the Syrian regime out.
For example, contrast that with Sen. John McCain or Lindsey Graham, who are very tough on the president, but they have a specific course of action they are advocating. They are advocating military intervention. As far as I can tell, a pretty open-ended military intervention. You know, they may have certain conditions.
But in the case of Romney, it's unclear what he would do: being tough for getting out ahead. What does all that mean? At the end of the day, we have to ask ourselves, what tools do we have? And how do we use them?
President Obama has decided he's not going to use the military yet. He's using diplomatic tools and economic tools. And if Romney has a better strategy, we need to hear it.
KING: And so when you say what tools do we have and what tools do we use, I think - I don't think there's any disagreement that the Kofi Annan mission has failed, and some would argue - and I can't debate them - failed miserably. What other tools does the president have diplomatically?
ZAKARIA: Well, I think that the effort to try to get the Russians to stop shielding the regime are important. The Russians, obviously, are never going to cooperate.
But at some point, they might realize that the al-Assad regime's days are numbered and they better get on the right side of history. And they might want to reposition themselves in the right place. And that might provide an opening.
At the end of the day, I think you have two choices. One is to try and economically strangle this regime, which is, frankly, quite possible, because this is not an oil-rich country. The regime does not have an unending supply of cash.
KING: Do you see a viable military option? When you talk to folks at the Pentagon they say you'd have to have at least 75,000 boots on the ground. They're worried about a dozen or more depots with chemical and other weapons of mass destruction around Syria, a very complicated ethnic situation and a much tougher, stronger well-trained army than you had in Libya.
ZAKARIA: I think it's very tough. Because as you said, the Libyan case is quite different. Syria is about 10 percent the size of Libya with about three times as many people.
In other words, in Libya, you had vast swaths of territory where the rebels could hide. They could get re-supplied. That's why they were able to detach almost a half of the country or a third of the country and a major city, Benghazi, from which they could get resupplied, from which they could proclaim independence. Syria has no such geography, and as a result, notice that the Syrian rebels do not control anything. They do not control a town; they do not control a piece of territory. And so it's going to be very hard.
The Syrian opposition is quite divided, quite diverse, and in that mix, to say that, you know, Western no-fly zones would work when most of the butchery is taking place using heavy artillery and tanks, I think again it's more rhetoric rather than an actual action plan that would work.
Check out TIME column: The case against intervention in Syria

Mitt Romney is a flip-flopper. His plan is to criticize with no specifics on what he would do differently. And once the President's plan begin to work, he would flip back and tell everyone he's been right all along. Romney is jelly fish. He will tell what you want to hear just to get elected.
You have just described President Obama perfectly. A flip-flopper and jellyfish.
where is the president flip-flopping? he has not changed his course on this. he has said that he will back the un on what it is doing.
Ask the widows of Osama Bin Laden how much of a jellyfish is our President.
President Obama (dumbo-crat) and aspiring President Romney (rip-off-again) are both politicians and (therefore) prone to say whatever will help them out in the moment. However, so far, President Obama is correct to keep us out of the Syrian Civil War (he could his mind as soon as I post this.) Aspiring President Romney has attacked President Obama on this, but what is his solution?
Indeed, Romney doesn't know what he's talking about. Syria's topography poses a challenge for foreign intervention. Apart from the two major cities Damascus and Aleppo, the rest of the country comprises small cities, towns and villages. The regions of Houla and Homs are the hotspots in Syria, which have seen heavy fighting in recent months. Take a look at Houla one understands why it's difficult for the opposition to gain ground. Houla's villages are predominantly Sunni Muslim, but the region is ringed by a number of Alawite villages – the sect of Bashar al-Assad. Before the opposition can set up a stronghold, it has to defeat its enemies – the villagers, not Assad's army. So the civil war escalates, the longer the conflict drags on.
Where do you get your information, dude!?
You are completely wrong Ted. Do your homework before exposing such nonsense. And that does not mean consulting mind polluting sources like cable tv news.
It's pretty obvious that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You clearly hate Barak Obama so deeply that you're willing to say anything negative about him just to be contrary. Are you saying a U.S. President that follows a diplomatic path to solve crises around the globe is weaker than a President who boldly orders military action if it advances U.S. interests? I have to ask, are you mentally retarded or did you quit school in 10th grade? Has Obama ever said military intervention is off the table? I haven't heard those words anywhere. You're probably too busy still searching for his "real" birth certificate to keep up to date on ACTUAL events like an adult.
This is what we need. Another phony tough GOP president willing to jump into a war in the Middle East which is none of our business. Romney is allegedly good at business which means his friends would get richer on such a war. Mitt shouldn't even ponder force as a response. In our society Congress makes these decisions not the President. Obama is doing the right thing by not funneling money into the military-industrial complex. The Syrians have Hamas, let them do their own wet work.
Ask the terrorists if President Obama "flip-flops" or is a "jellyfish"! It's hard to get an answer since most of them a DEAD!
Romney is a "chicken-hawk" with tough talk. Do you suppose his plans include sending his own sons to war? Like his buddy Mr. "Crappy-pants" Ted Nugent – Romney is all hat and no cattle.
sorry you don't LIKE POTUSBO but he is NOT a flip Flopper or a jellyfish! go back under your rock and tell your cave people its OK to come out into the light it wont hurt long... I'll make sure our pitchforks are very sharp. oK. LOL
his crew got TED "motor-city madman" Nugent to shut his arrogant pie-hole pretty fast eh?
probably shat himself twice in the interview. yeah a real jellyfish... hahahaha
@Nancy: Well, you cannot be born in two different places, for one! LOL
Maybe Romney could have his friends hold Bashar down while he shaves off his mustache or something. That will show'em.
Why does CNN allow six year old morons to post garbage ?

Do Your Part!
Ok I'll Take you up on that show me his Tax returns for 2011 and divulge all his money trails and don't lay it off as being handled by a blind trust. He has tax shelters set up and when they come to light he will blame it on his tax accountant and say he new nothing about it.
And while your at it tell me why he supported the war in Viet Nam and then avoided the draft by going to France for His church. To me that says he is a coward running his mouth about how we should be in Nam but I am not going but you should.
Well, I guess you are a Romney supporter. I for one don't think he has any idea what to do and is just pontificating which is what he seems to do quite well. Obviously you seem to be a birther. Let me ask you this. Did you ask Bush to show you his birth certificate? How about McCain? How about any republican or do you just hold them to a lower standard.
Good thing he didn't get paid while he was gov of Mass! Having the state's ranking in job creation go from 36th to 47th is NOTHING to be proud of. Also, how convenient of you to mention Bain's successes...with NO mention of the failures. And what about all the tax returns, and the Swiss and offshore bank accounts? Who are you anyway? Are you on Romney's paid staff?
On it's simplest level, Romney has no clue about foreign policy; he just wants to be President. If elected, he will bring back as advisers all the neo-cons who gave us the Afghanistan and Iraqi wars and who now lust to take on Syria and Iran, as Romney's public statements clearly prove.
I agree with you! Mitt Romney will be the next President of A M E R C I A! By the way, where is Amercia? Is that in Antartica or the Cayman Islands? Haha!
Two months ago, Mitt Romney criticized President Obama's handling of the economy and in addressing the unemployment rate, Mitt Romney said anything above 4% is unacceptable! But a month later, Mitt Romney said as president, he would reduce the unemployment rate to 6%! Duhhh! Well, you know what? I have come to the realization that Mitt Romney is not really a flip-flopper! Well, a DELIBERATE flip-flopper that is! I have come to realize that Mitt Romney suffers from a severe case of dimenchia! I tella ya, its not his flip-flopping that bothers me the most if he becomes president! What bothers me the most is that as president Mitt Romney might think the RED BUTTON is the one to his car elevator! CABOOM! Thanks but no thanks bainbrain!!!
Obama/Biden 2012!
Unpaid at everything because his old man had money. 30 months in France as a missionary – not exactly Africa. Send me to France anytime. Will not show us the details of his offshore tax evading investments.
There is no doubt Romney is good at making money – in my experience those people who make money are heartless when it comes to people. That is how they get ahead. Non of this shows he is qualified to lead a country which requires a knowledge of international affairs, the guts to use force when necessary, an occasional preparedness to risk your leadership on a dangerous task like going after OBL, and in general fighting for the middle class, not the rich.
Obviously, you know not enough about Romney. Did you ask him why he destroyed all the doc before he left the office in MA? Did you know the Bid Dig was the most expensive project of the US history, he refused to do the investigation about the corruption, and left the office just one term without explanation. Since you republicans love to blame the President about the economy at least he needs to clean up the messy. How about Romney did he clean up the mess in MA?
He made the profits from Olympics merely looting others social fundings, that was-took money from one pocket and filled up others. Is it so proud to brag about?
You should add this to your list. George Romney (Mitt's father) was born in a Mormon polygamist colony (to polygamist parents) in Mexico called Chihuahua, therefore making Mitt the son of an immigrant. Just another example of how Mitt Romney is no different than Barack Obama.
-Mitt Romney is one of the wealthiest self-made men in our
country but has given more back to its citizens in terms of money,
service and time than most men.
SORRY I DON"T BUY THAT! especially the given back part....
And Obama knows all about foreign policy becasue he leraned it all while he was a Senator right??? Oh, that's right, it only was for a few months and only when he decided to show up. Ted, this is a libby loving web site as you can see. Come November they will be in for a surprise. Obama has lost the vet vote becasue he is weakening our military, as Clinton did, his economic advisors suck, he is arrogant as noticed during the recent portrait hanging party, he speaks with "I did" when it goes right, and blames when it goes wrong...no class what-so-ever. NO Obama 2012. But, wrong website. Too many libbys in here for me.....Wake up! This guy Obalameo is NOT A LEADER!!!
Willard,
He has no spine and will not stand up to special interest.. he can even denouce Trump remarks about the birth certificate..and he want to take this country into another war! Please haven't we already sacrified enough...
He is another Joseph Smith making a come back!
Poligamy in in his blood and soon enough women will tak a huge step back.. prepare stay home and be one of many
sister-wifes.
oh no, another birther! also, the 2002 Olympics were NOT profitable, they cost the taxpayers (us) BILLIONS of dollars
0Patrick0
You are a simpleton.
Draft Notice? I thought he didn't serve.
Tax Returns? We're still waiting. How long should we wait?
He will show us his tax returns. oops. And about that 30 mos. in France, why does a person flee to France when his country is waging war in Southeast Asia, a war said person and his Presidential candidate father both supported. Maybe it is because like his sons he supports wars and troops from save distance. Why wait for a draft notice when you are for the war, are able bodied, and of age. Same question for his sons. Hell, man, do you have any idea of the consequences of these wars for those that serve, those that are victimized? Do you even care. What a man, what a patriot, what shame.
'Oh, that's right, it only was for a few months"
It was for 3 years. Seriously i have never seen so many lies spouted than when people want to try to moan about Obama.
You can make Hitler sound great if you ignore the bad stuff.
I know him well, i am from Massachussetts.
I wouldnt trust him to wash my car.
Look I won't argue on his experience but what does his birth certificate have to do with anything
American SENIORS ELDERLY, UNDER OBAMACARE U ARE LOSING UR MEDICARE ADVANTAGE, MILLIONS OF U ALREADY HAVE AND MILLIONS MORE WILL AFTER THE ELECTION IF HE GETS REELECTED, ALSO SENIORS U ARE LOSING UR MEDICARE IN 2014 UNDER OBAMACARE, MILLIONS OF U ARE!!!! AND U ARE GOING TO BE PUT ON STATE MEDICAID PLANS WHICH WERE NEVER MADE TO HANDLE ELDERLY PEOPLE AND THEIR SPECIAL HEALTH NEEDS, OBAMA AND DEMS DID THIS TO U, LOOK IT UP. OBAMAS ALREADY TOOK 500,000,000,000 OF UR MEDICARE MONEY FOR OBAMACARE, GOD BLESS U, IM SO SORRY
You spell "you" like this: Y...O...U. Try it out some time, maybe after you graduate from jr. high.
Jr. High education? Well in high school, they will teach one that it is not proper to use "you" in any written form, both get F's for English 101.
Dont be sorry, just put down the crack pipe, ok ?
Well it is clear you do not know how a billed is passed, the Majority of the Senate and majority of the house of Rep must agree on a bill that a President can only sign or not sign(veto). so the AHCA is a bill created by you Congress that this president signed. You are giving the current President to much credit for the AHCA (ObamaCare).
WARNING: MILLIONS OF AMERICAN SENIOR CITIZENS LOSING THEIR MEDICARE ADVANTAGE AND IN 2014 LOSING THEIR MEDICARE AND BEING PUT ON STATE MEDICAID ( AT GREAT HEALTH COST TO ELDERLY ) THANKS TO DEMS AND OBAMACARE, LOOK IT UP, OBAMAS ALREADY TOOK 500,000,000,000, BILLION DOLLARS OUT OF UR MEDICARE, LOOK IT UP ELDERLY, U HAVE BEEN SUCKER PUNCHED BY OBAMA, IM SO SORRY, LOOK IT UP AND GOD BLESS U
I'm not saying I disagree with your post. I actually agree with you. But your "text" spelling is abysmal.
Sorry but this phoney story keeps coming up on right wing blogs and is false. What "Obamacare" did, as a way to make the healthcare reform come out cost neutral was to elmininate the subsidy of Medicare Advantage programs, in favor of support for other parts of the program. This is not the same as Medicare, and it was a responsible part of the overall legislation. I am on Medicare and I am willing to forgo this in order to help other Americans obtain coverage.
And furthermore, if you are concerned about Medicare, then pay close attention to what Romney and the R's are proposing, which is to basically eliminate Medicare and put everyone onto some state program where they will get fantasy money, or else out onto the street where they can beg. Look it up.
Nancy, Ted is just being silly. Faux megaphone. Well asked?
@Sharon – What are you a Donald Trump wanna be?
You have the WRONG "Jellyfish." Just DAYS ago the French and Saudis proposed a plan to send jets to destroy Assad's entire palace, along with Assad and his family. Obama shrugged his shoulders and bowed out. You KNOW WHY? Because the ONLY genuine interest OBAMA has had over a long time is to keep the Status Quo before the next election. His ratings are DISMAL and he has done everything to DISTANCE the U.S. from any overseas involvement, even with the barbaric daily massacres occurring in Syria. Essentially, he is helping to perpetuate the situation by playing as if he is really part of the solution. The man is ALL RHETORIC, and THAT is his currency and what keeps him politically alive. With virtually nothing to show that would warrant another 4 years of Incompetence in the White House, his handlers have focused on attacking Romney and virtually ANYONE who is either Republican or Conservative. I have zero respect for him, his Divisiveness in sleazy in my opinion. He has mounted up the hugest debt imaginable for the nation and is STILL spending like a fish, as if the funds are HIS. Good luck, America, you bet on the wrong horse when you wept as if Christ himself was returning to Earth. Millions of those who supported him and donated their money and time dropped him when they realized they were SUCKERED, and are still kicking themselves for their naivete. The man's record is EMPTY and has demonstrated his incompetence. What more do Americans really need to know???
Thinking people disagree with you, and all your conservative crazy GOP nut jobs. WHEN CONSERVATIVES CAN GOVERN WITHOUT BEING OBSTRUCTISIONIST, TRUCULENT ZEALOTS, MAYBE THEY CAN BE CONSIDERED RESPECTABLE DIPLOMATS. Right now, none of these old white guys are effective, just big blow hards. Actions speak louder than words, make one aspect of this country better, make one person less miserable in this country besides the rich, "job creators" that you worship like a gold calf.
Never argue with a nut case.
He will only drag you down to his level.
Obama has proven that he is not a leader of any kind in the last 3.5 years! He's a delegater that is incapable of making a decision. If you'll remeber he supported Mubarrack of Egypt and then flip flopped on his support! The decisions that he did make ,like health care, "operation fast and furious" and adding more to our national debt than the last 3 presidents combined aren't anything to be proud of either! Obama is a liberal zealot with an agenda, not a leader! ....Obozo must go in November!
Obama is as inexperienced President as you can find, and he is driven "wannabe president so i can travel" from 3d grade. But Romney is a wealthy jerk, with no charisma or experience. I would rather have Bush back than Romney.
He has absolutely no foreign policy experience. He is saying what he is told to say. If you think Romney wants to be president for the good of the country, think again.
Well you have to remember Romney has been running for president since he ran for governor of Massachusetts. That's an awful long time. He still has no ideas of his own. he pays others to give him ideas. Foreign policy is strange to him. Remember we are still fighting the Soviet Union according to him.
And what type of experience did Obama have coming into office?...For crying out loud the man has never even had a real job!
Judging from your previous lengthy post, you have proven to be just another one of those obtuse birthers. You know the type: the ones that have been trying to provoke and stoke a conspiracy theory that just goes nowhere.
If they came from either the Democrat or Republican party, you can rest assured they are bought and paid for and will only make matters worse. Why can't Americans learn from mistakes. Even monkeys can do that. Stop electing politicians from these 2 corrupt parties. It doesn't work.
Both were from Harvard, Obama was a community organizer to help the poor, while your Romney was busy in raking money by manipulate our systems and laying of the employees. Obama also a senator do you know? Romney was a governor of MA but refused to explain why left the office with one term. Do you know that too?
Hey, as you know he vows to crack down the Chinese's trade policy, it's so laughable, he once forgot 90% products from his Staple is made of China.
Is a real job one where you take one stack of heavy boxes and move them over there with that other stack of heavy boxes. If that is the case then no, President Obama has probably never had a real job. Hell, for that matter neither did a lot of people who went to COLLEGE.
Yes he did – after he graduated from Harvard Law School, he worked as an attorney at the law firm where he met Michelle. Then he was a professor at a Law School in Chicago. He was in the Illinois legislature for 12 years before he was elected US Senator.
*** JerPell
And what type of experience did Obama have coming into office?...For crying out loud the man has never even had a real job!
----------------------------------------------------
What kind of experience did Bush have ?
Bush was the CEO of an oil company that failed.
Arbusto went bust under Bush.
How the heck can anybody run an oil company into the ground ?
So Obama is a graduate of West Point and served as a general in the Iraq War? HARDLY. He's just the Manchurian Candidate, that's all, and you fell for it, as did I. I voted for him once, but will vote for Romney this time!
Didn't he fire his foreign policy advisor (oops, I mean let him resign)?
If the opposition is not fully unified, there is no reason to keep fighting.
Put the guns down for a while and unify. You cant create unity in a warzone.
This Mitt Guy is a phony! He is all talk....
History people. Remember how another republican president wanted to "help" the rebels defeat their oppressive governemnt so we gave them weapon, tauight them how to make IED's, and armed them. The president was Reagan, the country was Afganistan and one of the rebels was someone name Osama Bin Laden..... how'd that work out for us?
With the help of the Afgahn, the soviet lost the cold war. Don't you think that ending the cold war was worth supporting the afghans. The mistake that the US did, is that it left right a way and didn't apply Marshal plan to rebuild the country. The same plan helped not to have europe to fall in chaos after world war two. If the syrian regime falls, the iranian regime will follow. There will be no need to go go to war with iran and america soldier's lives will be saved. The USA must support the rebels in Syria
You mention Iran... interesting. It seems I remember someone named Oliver North supplying them with weapons immediately after Reagan took over and the hostages were released (was that the cost of releasing the hostages???). I see how supplying them with arms has helped us there.... NOT! They're still one of the worlds largest supporters of any terrorist that wants to attack us or our allies.
Russia was going to fail in Afganistan. As we see now, those people will never stop fighting. There will always be rebel fighters fighting a government there, regardless of the government.
The same "rebels" we would be helping will want the USA destoyed later.
*** With the help of the Afgahn, the soviet lost the cold war.
Plain flat out historically WRONG.
Where did you go to school, Ethiopia ?
That's all most impossible to get a republican to do use history as a guide. They would not be trying to push the same financial program that put us in this depression with the Ryan Budget. And they would put a muzzle on Sen McCain and realize he is still bitter over his defeat by Obama and will attack him on any thing. They would Not be trying to push a pipeline that will not benefit the people in any way, but could destroy our fresh water supply. They would realize that Canada is only pushing this route because Canadians have said they didn't want the pipeline to go across their water supply and native lands. The republicans would have realized that the oil industry is not this country's ally but just another corporation and tax it accordingly.
Once upon a time, there were american rebels against england. A country named france helped the rebels and the rebels won their freedom and independance from england. Helping people to get their freedom especally after showing how brave they are to get it, is a good thing and helps in the long run.
future, that is an inappropriate comparison and you know it. The American Revolution was based on ideas of independence from a far-removed tyrannical leader, and was for self-determination, freedom and justice. The Taliban insurrection that is still currently ongoing is fueled by hatred of all things Western, blind adherence to religious dogma and a desire to impose their religious oppression on others. Trying to say that they're one and the same is ludicrous. If you're going to use history as a guide, make sure you're using it correctly.
You are missing my point. Helping oppressed people to get their freedom after seeing that they have the will to get is a great thing. Taliban came in power in Afghanistan after the USA just left the country in chaos unlike what happened in europ when the US played agreat part in rebuilding europ (marshal). Syrians showed a great will by facing such a brutal regime like assad's. Also, assad helped the groups in Iraq that fought the USA army. He already has american blood on his hands. I am not saying we have to intervene by sending our military. How about starting arming the rebels. The rebels will not be armed with F-16 or anything like that. Just weapons to face the 1970's syrian regime tanks.
We came here from England for freedom.
The English sent troops to put us back in line.
We faught back with french and hession troops and sent the English back to England.
War of independence.
Nobody helped us in our civil war we fought that ourselves.
The Syrian opposition is fighting the Syrian government in Syria. (Civil war)
There are so many sects involved, and religions involved and tribes involved.
You risk getting arabs/muslims involved.
Russia and Iran (Russian military base is IN Syria)
Turkey/Iraq/Lebanon/Saudi Arabia/Yemen/Bahrain/Egypt
The kurds (who are in Turkey/Iraq and Syria)
Israel.
Now do you understand ?
The wrong move could light a fuse and BOOM.
Nobody wants to see the suffering and murdering going on,
but starting world war 3 is not the answer.
And sending Americans into another war is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
obama's father is a black hero- 25 yr old man married w/ children and knocks a 17 yr old white ho up and flees town so her family can raise his son
That comment contributed exactly nothing to this discussion, other than exposing you for the racist bigot that you are.
Your either an idiot or a bold face liar. His parents were already married when he was born.
A true representative of the Republican party.
They always sound like six year old rednecks with missing teeth.
Just nuke the middle east and put them all out of our misery!
If the Muslims are killing each other, then they are too busy to kill Jews. Which is fine with me.
Juliotoolio....No one cares about Obamas father..Way to stay on topic.
we all under god . cant some one go in that country and take that man out? they did bin laden why not this one? few countrys need to go in and stop it. not just the us..
Seriously, problem solved with a SEAL team/scout sniper strike or a bunker buster from a mile high. Period. I think the main concern behind that though is it creates a power vacuum, and unless a strong force for PEACE and fixing their political system steps in, you'll see them continue the fighting.
First you mention God, then you mention taking someone out. You sound like Mitt.
Killing in the name of god.
Always the first option and never the last.
I think Syria's military controls the situation in that country. If you took out the leader(s) the same evil people would still be in control. This is a puppet regime that has turned into the character from "Chuckie". I'm not sure what the puppet masters of Russian and to a lesser extent China can do. If they try, they'll just show how ineffective they are. Keep American boys out of this.
anyone who says that they know how to handle the Syrian Crisis is just posturing.
When Asard's Daddy was at the helm in Syria some 30 years ago we had the same problem.Asard the Older killed/butchered over 30.000 syrians while the rest of the world stood by and watched. The US did not send the Calvary rushing in to save the day. There has been othe "crimes" taking place all over the globe and the US refused to get involved.
Rhuwanda THe Congo East Timor to name a few. So Romney and his crew playing politics.
What can the President do? Nothing-Snactions dont work as long as you have CASH you can get around sanctions. There is always some one willing to sell if the price is right.
The american Public is war weary. 10 years of Afganistan/Iraq has taken its toll on an All Volunteer army. Two and three Tours of duty has draind the armed forces. The folks making the most noise dont have any skin in the game. Did any of Romney's boys ever serve? Barack never served either. The Talking heads on the Right all criterze the President for leading from behind. These are the same folks who are quick to point out the Huge Deficit crumbbled about raising the debt ceiling and now they want the president to comit boots on the ground to Syria are they crazy> THe US is stretched thin . Diplomacy is the only choice the President should not spend any more treasure on the Middle East.
Romney is as bad military strategist. He ignores the situation in Syria and its topography, which renders an intervention a lot more complex than in Lybia, Syria has little open terrain, considering its population is about three times the population of Lybia. He also does not consider that if Assad leaves, the Alawites will be possibly exterminated by the Sunni majority, treated like second class citizens for years. Romney would like to show how tough he is, when in reality he might not be. Real warriors hate war, they know about it well. Besides. as sad as this is, it is still a Syrian problem, not an American one.
My post appears as an answer, when it was posted as a separate post.
One of the ways you can destroy the USA is entice it to get involved in every skirmish and war in the war and bleed it dry from the cost alone...seems its working
That it is jon, that it is but who's paying any attention? Not the majority of American voters as they listen to these right-wing,warmongering politicians getting us into more and more of these needless wars!
Anybody who had any doubts about who to vote for in the upcoming election should have had them answered by Romney's inept attempt to sound like someone who actually knows something about foreign affairs. There are NO, I repeat NO good options for us in Syria. Yes, the civilian deaths are a tragedy, but there is NO way that we can intervene and make this situation better. We have no idea who the rebels are, what their ideology is, or even whether they're better than Assad. The only sure effect of any U.S. intervention will be more dead Americans.
When you brainwash enough people to keep voting republicans into congress and the White House,
You are going to get the same results over and over.
Its telling that you will NEVER hear a Republican say a bad thing about 8 years of
destruction under Bush, Yet they want to toss out Obama, because
he hasnt fixed the damage in 4.
If I remember right the Syrians cheered on 9/11. They have not been friendly to us via history. The situation is terrible there. What we see and hear stabs our humanity but to put military in would be a HUGE mistake for many reason already talked about. What we surely don't want is another repub president who commits us to another long term war! Romney is a bozo if he thinks military intervention is the answer. No experience. Is that what you want??!! Vote Obama 2012.
The friend of my enemy is also my enemy. Syria is our enemy. One can say that their citizens aren't the enemy of the US, however those that perished in 9/11 were also citizens and had nothing to do with US foreign policy. This is solely a matter for those in the immediate area to handle, not America. Obama's doing whatever he can right now without committing our interests. Now, should Al Assad suddenly perish, that's an entirely different story.
**** If I remember right the Syrians cheered on 9/11.
Wrong, it was the "Palestinians"
you know, those Arabs who changed thier names back in 1968.
mitt has no clue.SHUT UP!
Neither Mitt Romney nor Barack Obama has it right when it coes to Syria. We need to stay out of Syria altogether and let the chips fall where they may. Then again, Obama has been a lackluster President but Mitt Romney will be even worse!
Explain, if you can, why, I presume you mean Americans, should stay out of Syria.
First of all the Syrian Army is not as strong as you may think. I was in Israel in 1973 and lived with and met many of the solders who kicked Syrian ass in that war. The Syrian army when met with equal fire power will fold just like the Iraq army did in the gulf wars. The real problem is what happens after Assad. Is it worth American blood to force a regime change as we did in Iraq and expect them to be our allies. It did not work in Iraq and I doubt it will work in Syria. Perhaps we would be better off by letting the Russians fix this mess and have an unstable Syria where the people do little to help the government carry out its policies. I am sure if Romney is elected he will do what Bush did and commit our resources to a no win war in the middle east. My relatives and I like the fact that the Syrians are killing themselves instead of funding the Palestians terrorists to kill us.
First 1973 is not 2012. Second, it is an internal Syrian problem, as sad as it might be. Third, America is winding down two wars, which were costly in lives and money, and are still deeply hated in the region, despite all the help provided to both Iraq and Afghanistan and does not need another conflict which will bring even more terrorism. This potential intervention should not happen.
Fourth, the US Army has trained exclusively on COIN for the last decade, not the third-generation conventional warfare that we would need if we fought an established military like Syrias. We would win, I dont doubt that at all. But it would be painful. And in my opinion, it's completely unnecessary. We dont intervene in Gaza, Georgia, Cambodia, all of Africa, etc when similar atrocities happen there constantly, yet were talking about intervening in Syria why? There is no strategic US interest at stake, we cant afford another war just to salve our conscience.
Why the heck is this our problem to fix? We are in Iraq & Afghanistan. We certainly don't need to be in Syria also. Let the rest of the world clean up this mess. They hate us when we get involved and try to help and then they hate us because we don't come to their rescue. Let's build a build wall around this part of the world and let them kill each other.
Agree except the wall. Why should the US pay for the wall?
We don't need to be in Syria. Just support the rebels and they will finish assad.
The problem is, we want to buy their oil. Otherwise we wouldn't be in that part of the world.
If they had oil, you'd probably be right. Genius.
They don't have oil, or parties would have passed the bill to invade there.
LOL!
Bob, no oil, just sand.
Syria's also absorbed a few hundred thousand Iraqi refugees who fled after the US invasion and still are afraid to go back. They've been paying for their care - though they're not rich for almost 8 years - I don't think we can really claim too much of a moral high ground in Syria to win hearts and minds there.
This is a situation that won't end well–if it ends at all. The McCain-Graham solution is a plan for open end committment to "a Syrian solution."
Sound familiar?
We could be 10,000 to 15,000 deaths away from a solution. The President could have unconventional solutions
in the works, but Syria is not the problem for the West to solve.
God bless The United States of America.
President Obama 2012 !!!
God quit blessing America long ago, we are now in the repent or else stage. Oh and, Barry will burn forever.
Barry wasn't around a long time ago, so that part of your statement doesn't cut it. We should stop saying God Bless America so much though.
Sorry, Bush has that spot all to himself.
Must watch,
htt p://w ww.youtube .co m/watch?v=vlxJXfdemW8&feature=related
Idiot American , only in syria ? You sent Arm group in syria causing terrorism , then blame government and invade in name of humantrain aid . Ludicrous . So Called American logical mind is useless here . One American one time did not ask why we take double policy on syria and Bahrain.
Did your camel get loose again ?
We don't need to get involved in any more wars around the world. We need to work here at home to try and fix our house. There are bad things happening all over the world, but we should not and can not fix all these problems. The world is in for a rough ride.
During the Libyan crisis, the GOP accused President Obama of "dragging his feet and doing nothing to help the civilians of Libya" but when the President got the international community on board for military intervention, the same GOP flip-flopped on the issue, accusing President Obama of rushing to war! Then the asked sarcastically "what's the mission and the end game!" Likewise, during the Egyptian crisis, while some of the GOP accused President Obama of not denouncing the Egyptian government's crackdown on protesters, others like Newt Gingrich accused President Obama of "betraying a friend" in Hosni Mubarak and of supporting the Muslim Brotherhood simply because our President called on the Egyptian government to recognize the demonstrators right to protest and subsequently called for a speed transition towards democratic reforms! So were the GOP for or against democratic reform in Egypt? That is hypocrisy! let's face it, it is either you're for one policy or the other but you cannot suport two conflicting issues at the same time! That is plain deceitful ludicrous hypocrisy! But we all know the GOP lack integrity! No surprise here!
Now, when it comes to the Syrian crisis, the GOP has again put their foot in their mouths! First they say they're for less government and then they stressed fiscal responsibility and accused the Obama administration of wasteful spending. But after they slashed billions of dollars off the defense budget during the previous debt ceiling compromise, a year later they flip flopped on their so-called principles once more, voting to increase defense spending! So where the hell does the GOP stand on the issues? Someone please help me here! Now, the GOP are at it once again, beating the war drums for military intervention in Syria but if President Obama was to follow suit, would the GOP support our President or would they once again accuse our President of rushing to war? I be damned!
Threads from the campaign trail................
First, A big thank you to all my Solyndra campaign contributors……….I know he is a tax cheat, but he is my tax cheat and he is running Treasury for me................There is a lack of courage in DC and no fiscal discipline and America deserves better, and I, Senator Barack Obama, am voting against the increase in the debt limit........... As President, I say we need to increase the debt limit by a few trillion in order to pay our bills ..........I will be open and transparent …...Now if you excuse me, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and I are going behind locked doors for a month in the cellar of the White House and try to write Obamacare..........I, Senator Obama, believe marriage is between a man and a woman..... I, President Obama, believe gays should have the right to marry.....If you elect me President I will cut the deficit in half by the end of my second term......As President I have asked for an increase in our debt limit to $16 trillion and have sent a $6 trillion dollar budget to the Senate, and Harry Reid assure me that he will not bring it up for a vote so as to embarrass me......If you elect me President I will get immigration reform done in 90 days of taking the Oath of Office -- if you reelect me President I will get immigration reform done in 90 days of taking the Oath of office ..... Obamacare will save us a Trillion Dollars......tell Pelosi to tell Congress that the congressman and senators do not have to read the health care bii, they just need to pass the bill….Please tell the Russian President that I will have more flexibility after my last election, so cut me a little slack and we can make a deal on the missiles…. The OMB has just reported that Obamacare will cost us $500 billion...... the white Cambridge Police acted stupidly...... if I had a son, he'd look like that black kid that was killed by that white guy ......I want to thank Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for all their campaign contributions....... I think that Mitt Romney's work at Bain capital was wrong and investment bankers are evil...I am now off to attend a $35,000 a plate fund raising event hosted by my good friend, Mr James, a high powered Wall Street Investment Banker doing great work in the private sector......If I were in office I would have been opposed to Afghanistan and I would get out.... As President we will stay in Afghanistan as long as it takes......As Governor of Massachusetts Romney ranked 47th in the creation of new jobs that year (and it does not matter that under Romney, Massachusetts had the lowest unemployment rate in the country and that is why he did not create a lot of jobs that year because he already had done that --).........As President I will defeat Romney because I have billions in the bank and have paid off all the unions for their votes, and I am the greatest teleprompter spinner of all time........ tell Axelrod that I know he created over 100,000 jobs at Bain, but only talk about the few companies that failed…. Whatever you do, don’t tell the truth about Romney………Forward America – to that bright spot on the horizon ...or is that a really big iceberg…...I can’t really tell... Oh Well, off to play a round of golf with my good friends Reverend Wright, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson….. And tell Spike Lee to text out Romney’s home address on the lake so the unions can picket him all summer.
I know you are justing "Itching" to bash Obama, but....
The average attention span here wont read a novel.
Obama has kept us from another long military intervention. Nobody likes to see the carnage happening in Syria, however, without a coalition of nations to stop this it would be foolish for us to act alone. He is saving American lives and tax dollars by not starting another conflict with uncertain outcome.
Obama is a coward and Romney is not. It is as simple as that.
Pres. Obama is a coward for NOT sending thousands of Americans to their death in a conflict that doesn't concern America. Riiight. Make sure you sign up to go to Syria when the time comes.
Yes Romney and his sons have been right there on the front lines, involved in the conflicts of our times haven't they? It's easy to be brave with OTHER people's lives and to cause death by proxy. Syria is a sinkhole of lives and money. When will our politicians learn that nothing unites a country quite like a boots on the ground foreign invader?
Obama sees our soldiers as Men and Women and Americans, to be deployed when necessary but only when necessary.
Romney sees them as a resource to exploit, just like he did with employees of companies he sucked dry w/ Bain.
You have been sucking snot again.
Blow your nose.
Republican war hawks just can't wait to get the war machine flowing again so they can profit off the lives of our brave men and women.
Romney has a plan. It's the same plan that Brigham Young used at "Mountain Meadows". Just lure the Assad regime into a, supposedly, safe place and wipe them out. With friends among the various Indian tribes, we can win a great victory. But we can't admit that we did it, because that will cause problems later.
i am literally sick of most of these men who are leading the world's countries or would hope to lead them. they all participate in so much secrecy and abuse of power and they always say one thing to us while going behind our backs to sell us out with the exact opposite. good luck to anyone still pinning hopes and dreams on a male president.
If the Obama administration was to put the comments made on the issues by GOP members for the past three and a half years into a commercial to show the American people how deceitful, unpatriotic, and un-American these rightwing hypocrites really are, President Obama would win this election by a landslide! For example, you cannot accuse the President of not doing anything to improve the economy or to help the American people and then turn around and stress fiscal responsibility and accuse the President of wasteful spending when the President introduces a jobs bill or asks for extension of unemployment benefits to help struggling Americans keep a roof over their families heads and food on the table while they look for work! HYPOCRISY! Likewise, you cannot say that the President is not helping the American people but when the President asked for extension of unemployment benefits, you turn around and say that extending unemployment benefits would only encourage the unemployed to stop looking for work! Shame on you Sen. Mitch McConnel and Sen. Jim Bunning! And when the President introduces a jobs bill, you cannot say you will not vote for this bill because it won't work but at the same time, say you're for the American people! HYPOCRISY!
And speaking of CLASS WARFARE, do you Republicans really know what class warfare really is? Class warefare is when you say every American must make a sacrifice in these trying economic times but then you turn around and give large tax breaks to billionaires and millionaires and then slash domestic programs to compensate for revenue lost from not taxing the rich! Do you know what that is really called? Its called REVERSED CLASS WARFARE! That is HYPOCRISY! Since the onset of this recession, Medicaid funding for millions of seniors across the country, the disabled and low income families have been cut, including funding for nursing homes and for those needing dialysis treatment and transplants and generic prescriptions. Also, funding for hospitals in some states have been slashed so drasticly where the cost for an overnight stay at some hospitals have gone from $5 a day to $100 a day. On the slashing block is also Earned Income Tax Credit for millions of low-income working families across the country. That is called REVERSED CLASS WARFARE!
And while the American people have made sacrifices and struggled to make ends meet, three and a half years into this recession, the GOP is yet to feel a need for the wealthy to make similar sacrifices. That is sacrifices that won't hurt them at all. At the onset of this recession, Americans in state and local governments have been laid off through forced retirements while others have been forced to accept furlough days without pay. Many have seen their salaries and benefits slashed with no potential for pay raises that they've earned and many have been forced to contribute a percentage of their salaries to their pensions. Let's face it, that is called REVERSED CLASS WAREFARE!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!
I just opened a beer in your honor, trailer....
SPLOIT !!!
Well done.
The Republican are good at sending are kid to war, but you won't see any of there kid In that war. Than they can give Big contract to there Big Business Buddy. And President Obama is going thought the U.N. And trying to get other Country to help or take charge. And beside that starting another war Isn't going to lower the dept ,It would rise It a lot. But the Republican will said It will create new Jobs.
If we go to war with Syria I'm sure Willard will be the first one in line at the recruitment office.
Romney should shut the f up. this is treason.
Romney is one of the most ridiculous and biggest flip floppers in history! He has switched statements and positions dozens of times, on serious matters. I realize that people change beliefs every now and then but this guy has flipped so many times he puts a burger flipper to shame! It always depends who he is addressing his message to. It'll be a disaster to vote for someone with no convictions!
Did Romney get elected President? I noticed at 1:23 in the video Fareed referred to him as President Romney.
You don't know all the intricacies or intel required in a military operation. We can't just go in with aircraft because there are no friendly held areas in the country. If an aircraft gets shot down where is the pilot gonna escape to? He'll end up in the Syrain governments hands. I'd be more supportive of using uavs but that could have been done in Libya and wasn't, there must be a reason, Syrian jets taking them out probably. Plus since the Syrain government and Iranian government are allies any drone shot down will probably go to the Iranians.
Meanwhile Russia and China continue to prevent the international community from putting an end to the atrocities being committed by Assad and his evil regime.
Russia and China, you are a disgrace, for allowing innocent men, women and children to be slaughtered, so you can make a profit.
Russia and China continue to assist the international community in implementing its Syrian conflict strategy: keep them fighting, supply them with munitions, let them weaken each other, inflict as much damage on each other as much and as long as possible, paint them both black, for both are our enemy: Syrian regime and al Qaeda supported fundamentalist fighters... We do not really want any of them win: or do we?
That situation is just great – you can spread the blame and point fingers, do whatever... So feeds you self-esteem and helps you feeling of moral superiority. So use it to full! Hurry man, do not keep anything back! That is your time – rotten western liberal!
Romney and Obama are both jokes. Only the partisan tools refuse to recognize it.
And the US has no business going to Syria, although the war hawks who want to prove a point to the Chinese and Russians to potential stir up a third World War are quite hilarious. I say we gather all of you armchair commandos up and dump you in Iran so you can help overthrow a "real" harsh dictatorship.
Regardless of what Mitt Romney thinks should happen, he should at least come up with some sort of plan for syria. Otherwise he's just like a blogger. Critizising everyting but with no solutions. I mean, even Ron Paul has a plan. He's crazy, but at least he can say with confidence what he would do if he were president.
"One is to try and economically strangle this regime, which is, frankly, quite possible, because this is not an oil-rich country. The regime does not have an unending supply of cash." – what is it about? It looks like a piece of some alternative logic to me. The country is not oil-rich, it IS NOT export/import dependent so it makes it easier to economically strangle it? How so? So making a statement and supporting it with exactly opposite: that is what journalisting is about?
Mitt is DANGEROUSLY ignorant, and Mitt is demonstrating that not only is he an empty suit, but he's an empty puppet. This is the guy that would have hands fighting each other to get a chance to plunge up his backside and tell him what to do. "You have to act now, Mr. President. Nuke Mexico!!' Mitt is weak enough for that scenario to NOT sound as absurd as it should.
Barack Hussein IS AN IGNORANT IDIOT AND A LIAR AND A PILE OF SMELLY POO
gg, face it...Barack Obama is the President of the United States...one of 44 human beings in the history of the country to reach that accomplishment. It's an accomplishment that you'll never reach...nor anyone that you are related to or know. He's the guy sitting at "the desk", getting information, and making the tough decisions that Mitt isn't even doing a good job of pretending he's capable of making. If you're OK with LITERALLY ignorant politicians clouding the atmosphere and politicizing something as serious as war and loss of human life, then you should expect nothing less from them.
Warning.....................
Six year old trolling for attention......ignore.....ignore.....ignore....
Name a military action republicans have won. Name a war McCain has opposed.
We won in Panama, we won in Haiti, we won in iraq, Obama stinks soooo bad, HEY SENIORS ELDERLY ALOT OF U MILLIONS, ARE LOSING UR MEDICARE ADVANTAGE AND UR MEDICARE UNDER OBAMAS OBAMACARE, HE TOOK 500,000,000,000, from MEDICARE, LOOK IT UP
Under President Romney they'll lose Medicare entirely.
Didnt Regan take out Grenada ?
You remember, that tiny little Island in the carribean.
Seems like the Syrian leader is a war criminal. Start preparing charges against him.
Why DOES Russia stand behind Assad? Our now-instantaneous and near-universal communications do NOT favor secretive elitist governments, and true dictatorships are an endangered government form. So standing behind one is not being on the right (the winning) side of history. One could suspect Russia prefers the devil they know to the ones they do not know, but sooner or later they will have to dump this person and his cabal. It just grows more costly for them, so the sooner the better. Same with China. Same with Iran even, and even in spite of a Sunni gain, if they'd think it through.
Russia has sights on a larger destiny that requires the fall of the U.S. They couldn't care less about bloodshed in Syria. The moment that we lose control of the decision to commit our forces to war is the moment that will signal the rise of Russia and China and the fall of the United States. Feels like a game of Mortal Kombat...one more blow to the US, rushing foolishly into war on emotion, and we'll be ripe for a finishing move – Fatality. Youtube "Mortal Kombat fatality" if you have no clue about which i'm referring.
You better go back to your game.
This is the real world.
The biggest problem that nobody is talking about is the fact that
there is a RUSSIAN MILITARY BASE ON SYRIAN SOIL !!!!!!
The Russians and Iranians have been moving equiptment, weapons and troops there for months.
So, now all you war hawks screaming for Obamas head on a platter,
whate the next move ?
Start a war with Russia ?
You freaking stupid idiots know nothing.
Lean6: you spend too much time playing "Mortal Kombat". Do not become a fatality, try to keep your mind exercised.
Or rather not. Try to think about it!
If Russia wanted US falling: it would not prevent it from getting more involved into Syrian conflict. US is probably just anothe two-three victorious war away from total disaster...
Youtube "Mortal Kombat fatality" if you have no clue about which i'm referring.
I believe what it is is that Russia actually LEARNED from Afghanistan, that you can't invade a country and kill people to make them over in your image, that it doesn't solve anything but actually makes them worse. Our politicians will keep fighting Vietnams over and over because their sons and daughters don't get involved and their friends make piles of money.
Mitt Romney constantly contradicts what he's said. He supported Ryan's plan which including dramatically educational cut. Last week he pointed out that the size of the classroom was not the matter, but good teacher was. Hint that he supports continue laying off teachers. However, this week again, he said in front of a hispanic group said that private school is not only for the privilege, if he's a president all parents can choose wherever schools they liked: private school, charter schools and the federal government would pay for it.
He probably forgot why he supported Ryan's and to take the medicine.
Yeah, the federal government will pay for every kid to go to a private school WHILE they cut the education budget. Read that as; they will give parents a $50 tax credit to put their kids in private schools after all of the public schools are closed.
And that's if they can find a private school willing to take their kid.
Just what we need – to become mired in another conflict over there.
does everyone forget we are just ending two wars (unpaid for by the previous administration - ergo being paid for now by the rest of us) why would any president in his/her right mind just send troops into another conflict? if the UN approves, and NATO is willing (might be on this one since europe has more of a vested interest than we do in Syria), perhaps there will be fly-overs or no-fly zones, but doubt there will be boots on the ground on this one. obviously none of the male commentors serve or have served in the military. PLEASE stop it with the "hey seniors elderly alot of u millions, are losing ur medicare -" first learn how to spell then, check your own facts! the tea party would like to actually do away with medicare and have seniors get vouchers and pay for their insurance. the politics of the campaign are all really silly this time.
Syria is a mess. Obama is right to be cautious. Romney seems all happy to get involved and support the rebels who are Sunni Moslems and are headed by the Moslem Brotherhood (they did well in Egypt a few weeks back). Romney needs to be VERY cautious about whether the U.S. should support the Moslem Brotherhood. Nor should the U.S. give support to the Alawite/Shia crew that are running the country (the Shi'ites control countries such as Iran). It's complex: we should do what's right for the U.S. Don't use it as a proxy for our own blue/red battles.

Mitt Romney was addressing a crowd in Prattville, Alabama this past Monday when he stated:
I understand how difficult it can be for an African-American in today’s society. In fact, I can relate to black people very well indeed. My ancestors once owned slaves, and it is in my lineage to work closely with the black community. However, just because they were freed over a century ago doesn’t mean they can now be freeloaders. They need to be told to work hard, and the incentives just aren’t there for them anymore. When I’m president I plan to work closely with the black community to bring a sense of pride and work ethic back into view for them.
=============they have no chance to be an unpaid intern in your daddy's gov !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it their fault >?????
As usual, Romney has a "plan," but won't divulge what it is. He says he has "plans" to fix just about everything, but never says anything concrete. The last thing we need to do is get involved in the Syrian mess. From our tremendous losses in Iraq and Afghanistan, we should have learned to steer clear of foreign wars. We need to focus on our own country and address its needs.
If Romney has a better strategy? Well doesn't that depend on which way the wind is blowing at any given time. I mean seriously we are talking about some one who says one thin now and then changes his position an hour later.
Syria is an Arab problem not America's problem. Stay out out of it.
Syria is not an Arab problem only. USA is not allowing any of other countries in the region to back the syrian revolution and arm the opposition. This is basically for the sake of their spoiled schizophrenic child israel protection. Assad is the only person that israel trust. USA had convinced Saudi arabia, Turkey, jordan and other Arab gulf countries not to support the syrian revolution because those dictators can face a similar fate in the region and that is not for the good of israel and USA interest. Evileness cannot win in the long run and the will of free people will no matter how weak they are.
*** This is basically for the sake of their spoiled schizophrenic child israel protection. Assad is the only person that israel trust.
Syria has attacked Israel 3 times, and Israel trusts assad ?
You are a mental case.
Syria .......it's none of our business.
Syria is a global problems...why...???? this is because Russia and China are so involved in protecting the ASSAD and his killing machine. USA always backed israel who's interest is based on supporting and keeping Arabs dictators in power oppressing their people and stealing their resources so israel can survive. Israel has to know that firm establishment and their survival is based only on good relation with their neighbours. Israell has supported Assad for more than 40 years. Hafiz Al ASSAD the father of the current criminal son handed Golan height on a copper plate to israel in 1967. Israel know for sure that when arabe rise is not good for them. Sorry USA has deeply involved in supporting those dictators and you have to pay the price whether you like it or not.
Another nut.
Did somebody spill the bag ?
Romney is a moderate and was a governor of a liberal state. He has a reputation of being fair and open minded. Half the stuff written above is made up by left wing commucrats and occupiers. HIs father came to the United States with nothing and worked hard. There is something to be said for this.
We need jobs & I m a democrat.
You are no Democrat. You are a fool.
No fool. – He was a popular governor in a blue state. Politics are different in New England than in Texas, and to govern from Boston moderation is needed.
Polarization will not solve this countries very big problems.
If you are a Democrat please change your party because Romney is nothing but a pandering liar. Just check the last week. Fundraising with "birther" Trump, lying about Obama at Solyndra yesterday and on and on. He will do, say and befriend anyone to get elected. Romney means death to the middle class.
Lot's of drama at your end too.
Did you hear Bill Clinton remarks on Romney today. – I am with Mr Clinton.
Romney only served one term in Massachussetts
because he screwed the state up so bad his polling numbers where in the pitts.
But today if you ask him, why only one term,
he will lie to you and say, i did such a great job, i decided to run for president.
Bullship.
Arabs killing each other is not America's problem anymore than if Jews were killing each other in Israel.
It's blatant political rhetoric, Romney just saying anything in hopes he might snag a few fools. But what's frightening is that he's probably right - there are still lots of people out there who think it's in America's interest to intervene in a civil war. Remember Vietnam? Remember Iraq? Didn't those work out well for us?
You are absolutely right Joe. This election is a fool’s parade. How anybody can watch it without throwing up is beyond me.
In an election year the challenger almost, no always, disagrees with the president and in this case Romney seems to be way off base. He’d rather say something many in the GOP don’t agree with then admit the president is right in taking the path that he has. If you were to see/listen to this weeks interviews with Donald Rumsfeld & Colin Powell you’d know why those with expertise on this subject feel that Obama is currently doing the right thing and they, in so many words, don't think Romney has his head screwed on right.
Romney thinks of killing the children of Syria the same way he thinks of the firing of poor people, something he really likes to do.
Romney is just a pandering id*ot. He has no clue when it comes to foreign policy, diplomacy or anything else unless it has to do with enriching himself and his friends. Romney positions are a threat to every American except the 1%.
Russia remains a superpower and it's Putin who is pulling the strings in Syria. The Assad regime has become a puppet for its interests in the region. There is nothing we can do so, let's look away or... cede the port near Damascus to Russia.
"Get on the right side of history"... lol these sound like the 1900s.
Every time Mitt Romney speaks, I hear Gordon Gecko, my friends.
.....nobody listens to Obama anymore!!!!!! ...LOL
This presents a good opportunity for Obama to link Romney to Bush... but he needs to shut Hillary up first. Hillary is making me mad with some of the things she says.
Wait – I was just getting used to the new, anti-war GOP that based the President for our involvement in Libya! What happened? I can't keep up with this party – is it for or against military intervention in the Middle East? Or is it just against whatever course of action the President takes?
Syria Schmyria. This election is about the economy, stupid.
President Obama – Let a coalition of nations and the UN deal with it
Romney – Get involved in another middle eastern war
These are the same Syrians that were dancing in the street on 9/11. Screw them and the horse they rode in on and Fareed Zakaria can stop trying to guilt trip the United states into dropping bombs.
OBAMA 2012!
Obama is a bigger warmonger than Bushy Jr was, chump.
Which war did Obama start? Hahahahahahahhaa
Look down....
You are wizzing on your shoes.
Obama not only didn't end the Iraq and afghan wars when he said he would, he started a Libyan and the Pakistan conflicts without congessional approval I might add! Obama also spent more money and lives in Afghanistan in less than half the time than G.W.Bush ever dreamed of. Obama is a war mongerer indeed! ...the only person wizzing on their shoes here are Obama supporters that can't stand the truth! ...LOL
Who gives two hoots in he _ l about Syria, it's the economy stupid.
The GOP solution: Start a war with Syria, Iran, (insert country here) totally unfunded of course. The get the poor people to fight/die in the war while giving the rich people "no bid contracts". Thus killing two GOP birds with one stone. Then use that country's oil to pay for the war. And when the war is over, that country will sell us cheap oil!!!!!!! Just like in Iraq!!!!!!!!! Oh wait.........never mind.
Ain't it strange how Barrack was so quick to help overthrow Mubarak and drags his feet with Assad ? Oh – that's right, Mubarak was friendly to the US ! Lesson for dictators -> Of you want to stay in power get friendly with Russia and China ! The US will stab you in the back !
Ain't it strange how Barrack was so quick to help overthrow Mubarak ....
Yeah, he flew over in his superman cape, and tackled Mubarek and single handed
dragged him to jail.
Another nut out of the bag.
.....yeah, Obungles only rolled over on Mubarak twice and then fled the seen! ...revisionist history is anything ,but aspiring!
Obimbo supported Mubarrack in the beginning of Egypt's rebellion and didn't want him out of power you idiot! What are you taliking about?
Obama is as inexperienced President as you can find, and he is driven "wannabe president so i can travel" from 3d grade. But Romney is a wealthy jerk, with no charisma or experience. So pick the lesser evil.
Obama's is a flip floper. He promised no phone tapping of american citizens then stepd it up wen took office. obama made 508 promises during his campaign pretty ridiculous.
Obama proved to the whole world that he is an impotent president with no spine. He is unable to do any thing at all. George Bush was idiot because of his little brain that is consumed by alcohol and drugs. He was a very gallable person that is fooled by Wolfowitz, Pearl, Abramson and other neocons and zionist. Obama is impotent because of his slavery genes who yield to zionist who believe in world and human destruction. Ameriican people has to understand that zionist religion is destruction of the wole world and to enslave humas for the servitude of chosen people. This is not god religion and not the jewish religion. Jews all over the world should be liberated from that zionist mentality.
I smell smoke.
I think its your brain cells.
Obama is IN WAY OVER HIS HEAD.
That said the outrage and protest from Syrian Arab neighbors is deafening.
I am stunned that the US, the greatest nation in the world, has Obama and Romney as the top two candidates as president. The most incompetent president we have ever had vs another life time money grubbing politician. Would a real leader please stand up?
We have a "real leader", you don't recognize it because of your own personal bias.
....and his name was George W. Bush!
There are few Presidents who ascend to the office of the President with experience. Most of it is OJT(on the job training).Every situation is different so no one can be prepared for them all.In the military it is said the "the best plans go to hell with the first shot"This is why leaders try to surround themselves with the best and the brightest. Most if not all of the critics of the President could not do a better job and would be like the bozo from Alaska and quit before the term ends.
It's a pretty sure bet that Obungles and his lack of leadership will mess this one up too! ...what ever happened to his no more or end all wars policy? .....Bush is looking better and better every day!
Syria is another botched foriegn affairs job by the current administration! The decision to take action on Syria should have been rendered months ago! ...a third war for president "O"bozo and the Democrats is nowa real possibility!
Not only didn't Obama end the Iraq and Afghani wars when he said he would, he spent more lives and money in Afghanistan than Bush did in less than half the time! With Obama's lack of leadership skills accompanied by no tangible foriegn policy america could be defeated in this conflict as a result! Obama should have taken action at least 2 months ago before the situation deteriorated into the Russians and Chinese backing Assad's regime! We are literally a country without a leader and should stay out of Syria!!!!!!
....Obama doesn't have a foriegn policy Fareed! What are you talking about?
In this world we live in today, at such difficult times as these, I thank God John McCain is not our president. OBAMA 2012!!!
Unquestionably imagine that that you said. Your favorite reason appeared to be at the net the simplest factor to consider of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed whilst folks consider issues that they just do not understand about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest as smartly as defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
You been strangling kittens again ?
I see you have graduated to sticking hamsters up your keester.
Well, thats better than killing kittens.
