Pakistan on the cusp of change?

By CNN Global Public Square

For more “What in the World,” watch "Fareed Zakaria GPS" on Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET

Earlier this month, the Pakistani Taliban opened fire on a school bus. Two girls were shot. At first, it seemed a familiar story. The Taliban, after all, has bombed hundreds of schools, especially those for girls.

But here's what's new: Mass protests ensued against the Taliban, and in favor of women. That's startling and refreshing in Pakistan.

This past week, thousands of demonstrators thronged to the streets to protest the Taliban's brutality towards women. They're rallying around one person, 14-year-old Malala Yousufzai. Malala was one of the girls who was shot on that school bus. She was not an accidental target. The Taliban directly sought her out and shot her in the head. They wanted to kill not only Malala, but what she stood for. Here's why:

"I will show them the Koran, what Koran says. Koran didn't say that girls are not allowed to go to school"

Malala exposed the lie of Islamic extremists – and they were willing to kill her for it.

But she survived, and so has her argument. Her courage in taking on the Taliban has inspired moderate Pakistanis.

We've been waiting for this kind of moment for a while. What will it take for moderate Pakistanis to unite against extremism? For years now, fundamentalist groups have tried to turn Pakistan into a theocracy. They've scared girls into forgoing school, they've repressed women, they've pushed for draconian interpretations of Pakistan's blasphemy law. But where was the pushback? Just last year, when a state governor, Salman Taseer, spoke out against the misuse of the blasphemy law, he was gunned down. Outside the court, his killer was greeted with rose petals. Where was the public outcry?

Perhaps the last time we saw sustained public anger against the Taliban was three years ago, when a video of a woman being flogged circulated on the internet and on Pakistani TV. That moment led to mass support for military action against the Taliban.

So perhaps the tide is turning once again. Pakistanis often blame the West for their problems, protesting against America, against drone strikes, or even against YouTube. But the real enemy lies within. And it took a 14-year-old girl to bring that to people's attention.

Pakistan's youth literacy rate is only 71 percent; take South Asia as a whole and that number rises to 80 percent; it rises to 90 percent when you take the whole world into account. Girls fare especially badly in Pakistan. There are only 79 Pakistani schoolgirls for every 100 schoolboys. In South Asia that number is 95, and in the whole world it’s 97.

But you don't need a World Bank database to spot these trends. Just ask any schoolgirl in Pakistan.

Women are often seen as the stealth reformers of Islam. As they press for their rights, it will force a more liberal and flexible interpretation of the religion. And while politicians have been cowardly and hesitant, a 14-year-old girl has led the charge. Here's wishing her a complete recovery, so she can get back in the fight for her country and her religion.

Pakistan's real enemy? iSLAM. As Kemal Ataturk, founder of modern Turkey, once observed "This is Islam, an absurd theology of an immoral Bedouin, a rotting corpse that poisons our lives". That about sums it up.

Hinduism is a disgusting cult. Even to this day cross-cousin, father-daughter, mother-son, brother-sister, doing each other is common practice. Let me make it easy for you and refer you to the hindu scriptures and share it with the world. Shame on Hindus and barbaric Hinduism.

She was shot by ISAF, no taliban every admitted shooting her it was all a play game in jew owned media of USA. There is a reason they transported her to UK so that no one can hear the real story behind who shot her. USA/UK want to control whats released to the press and so people will never know that they shot her.

Countless studies have shown that there is a higher incidence of incest and child molestation among southern, white evangelical families than in any other group that participated in the study. Experts are in agreement that this type of deviant behavior is generally a result of living in close quarters, such as trailer parks. Anyone requiring further proof only has to take a casual drive south of the Mason-Dixon line where you will encounter toothless inbreds wherever you travel. In fact, historians have long theorized that the reason the south lost the Civil War is because of the high number of mentally challenged soldiers in the army, a direct result of generations of inbreeding.

As one flushes through some of the acromonial comments posted herein, one sees frustrated Indian hindus (?) in wolf clothing (names!) making asinine one liners trying to put Pakistan in negative light. Is it obsession, or is it jealousy or is it pure boredom resulting from economic doom/poverty/bubble burst/joblessness prevalent in India? It probably is a combination of all of above.Needless to say that Indians, among others, should learn from the inspiration that Malala has generated and try to emulate her bravery, intelligence, innocence in standing up to overwhelming odds and speaking her mind up. This is what Pakistan stands for and Islam preaches. In America we call it freedom.

The Pakistani and American people and congress recognize the symbolism and good will that Malala has created and desire to recognize her with a medal besides all the support they can garner. Malala's legacy has just begun. It is singular people like Malala who stand up to and bring down terrorism, hate and malice and bring changes to the world for the good. To our Indian brethren we say seize the opportunity and learn from it and change for the better. It is never too late. Shed your fabric of hate and negativity and medievalism and inculcate in yourselves the very essence of Islam and other religions of god that Malala stands for. Adopt a posture of positivity and non interference with your neighbors. Move forward with this changing world and pull your people out of poverty and struggle for existence quagmire that your people are stuck in. Let us help you help yourself. For starters, let's start making some intelligent comments on these forums that pass the laugh test.

Off course, cannot expect rational comments from you guys. I would have abused the same way as you did. But then, what is the difference between a civilized person like me and an uneducated person like you. You are telling to embrace Islam...I doubt you even understand an iota of Islam. If you had understood Islam, you would focus your thoughts and actions in condemning the brutal attacks on the 14 year old girl, instead of building up cooked stories against India

HINDU KALI – GODDESS OF VIOLENCE/TERRORISM

A recent report by United Press trust of India (UPI) stated that during the past three years more than 2,500 young boys and girls were sacrificed to goddess Kali in India. Another of AFP's recent reports say: hundreds of young boys and virgin girls are sacrificed every month for the deity Kali. In one case Rama Sewak hacked his eight year old son to death in broad daylight in Delhi because goddess Kali had told him he would come back to life and bring him good fortune. Bloodthirsty Kali is worshipped openly the length and breadth of India. Kali's statue stands naked astride the inanimate body of the Hindu deity Shiva, tongue stuck out with blood dripping from fang-like teeth. She holds a noose, a skull-topped staff, a blood-encrusted sword and a severed head. She is also known as Durga, Devi, Shaktima, Uma and Parvathi in other manifestations. The priest of Delhi, Kali Bari, says that a child sacrificed to Kali ensures a man the birth of a son. Human sacrifices are also made to these gods or goddesses, either to appease them or to ask favours of them.

Good question. Perhaps you have an answer to the following:

The American invasion of Afghanistan brought to the forefront the irrelevance of India as a nation. With a population of over 1.2 billion people there was no value that this nation could bring to the table. Their soldiers (ragtag) 1.2 million continue hiding in the trenches scared from Talibans. A few teenage Talibans invaded the country and held it hostage for days on end showing how useless India is. It was embarrasing for the world to observe this humiliation of a nation that was being touted as a regional power.

THE ACTUAL QUESTION IS WHERE IS THIS COWARDLY ARMY HIDING SCARED FROM TALIBANS????? Hmmmmm.........................................

Malala is a symbol of freedom, bravery, outspokeness and beacon of light for all girls/women in this world. Singulalry, she stood up to terror and showed a reasoned mind seldom seen at her age. She is a product of a progressive society in Pakistan and reflective of the tolerant values that Islam stands for.

To her attackers and those who threaten her we say shame on you. What the world armies could not do to you a 14 year old girl took you down without firing a bullet. If you have any dignity left come into the folds of modern society. If you are being financed by foreign elements, return those monies and say NO, THANK YOU! We are now smarter than that and a girl has taught us a lesson that we shall never forget.

        HINDUISM: LINGAM & YONI
Lingam and Yoni are the male and female s@xual organs respectively. Hindus are allowed to worship anything – including s@xual organs. It is not unknown for them to name their children Shiva Lingam (God Shiva's s@xual organ) or Rama Lingam (God Rama's s@xual organ). (In some places in Karnataka, the gods demand both male and females to pray naked together.)

In India, millions of girls are strangled, slowly starved or simply tossed in the trash. Moreover, in India, at least 1,370 girls are aborted every day. As a comparison, some 250 Indians die every day in road accidents. Terrorists killed about six people, on an average, every day in 2009. In the last two decades of economic progress, 10 million girls have died as such in India.
SHAME ON INDIA AND ITS BARBARIC AND MEDIEVAL CULTURE !!!

Look at all these Taliban sympathizers. Bringing up India again and again. What you Paki's don't get is that we don't really care about you at all. What we care about is that your government only controls about 60% of your country with the rest being controlled by bandits. While this seems like something out of the 1600s it is very much the case. If we didn't have to constantly step in for your military then we would leave you alone. This has nothing to do with India either, it is your boarder with Afghanistan that concerns us. We will continue to use drones in your sovereign territory until you stop messing around and actually secure your boarders.

New, More Dangerous Hindu Extremist Groups Emerge in India

Christians concerned as rightwing factions splinter to form militant outfits.
PUNE, India, October 29 (CDN) — After more than a decade of severe persecution, India’s Christian minority is growing increasingly concerned over the mushrooming of newer and deadlier Hindu extremist groups.

Gone are the days when Christians had to watch out only for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (World Hindu Council) and its youth wing, Bajrang Dal, which are closely linked with the most influential Hindu extremist umbrella organization, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). With voter support faltering for the RSS’s political wing, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), moderate and extremist sections within the Hindu nationalist movement are blaming each other, and militant splinter groups have emerged.

Claiming to be breakaway factions of the RSS, new groups with even more extreme ideology are surfacing. The Abhinav Bharat (Pride of India), the Rashtriya Jagran Manch (National Revival Forum), the Sri Ram Sene (Army of god Rama), the Hindu Dharam Sena (Army for Hindu Religion) and the Sanatan Sanstha (Eternal Organization) have launched numerous violent attacks on Christian and Muslim minorities.

Bizarre Health Rituals in India Show Dangerous Side of Tradition

In what has got to be on of the most vile and disturbing things ever put to print, a man in eastern India was arrested for his unconventional and downright insane method of curing the common cold in children.
50-year old Jamun Yadav, who considers himself to be a demigod of the Hindu faith, believes he can channel and transfer divine energy through his feet, which has lead to him standing on the necks and throats of young children suffering from your average run-of-the-mill cold.
When asked about them, the guru claimed that he was merely speaking for God, and as such needs no other defense.
It serves as a grim reminder of the dangerous religious traditions observed by many Hindus in India, many of which are done so for the health of their children. One such ritual involves throwing infants off of a fifty foot tower, a tradition thought to bring good health and luck to the child throughout his or her life.

"It is no secret that Hitler and his Nazi cronies sought inspiration from Indian extremist groups including the branding of his Nazi Party by adopting the Swastika, a traditionally Hindu symbol and representation of Hindu god Ganesha, as its marketing tool. The thesis being that like the Norwegian massacre the Jewish holocaust orchestrated by Hitler was inspired by the inherently violent cult of Indian Hindus and the manifesto of its then extremist/terrorist groups still in existence today. These groups are now the successors to and carrying out the vision of Al Qaeda all over the world albeit in a clandestine manner."
Let me quote another instance of this disgraceful disposition:
It is no secret that Mahatma Gandhi (Hindu leader) was a pedophile. What is very disturbing is his relationship (!) and friendship with Hitler. He is known to have offered advice and encouragement to Hitler and his Nazi Party to undertake the Jewish Holocaust."

Sometime back there was an interesting blog on India "The bubble of India has burst: Humpty Dumpty has Fallen”. We here in Haiti continue to monitor the political and cultural turmoil in India as a large percentage of our population are sugar cane slaves from India. As of now, we reiterate our view that Hindu State of India is in a precarious situation and that a geo-political implosion is imminent (if not already in process) and the need of the hour. As you will recall, India was initially broken into pieces by Arabs, Afghanis, Persians, Pakistanis, and lately by Chinese and so on. And rest assured that is not the end. India is mired in poverty and has a suppressive regime with respect to minorities. Substantial aid by the world over the years to India has failed to reverse the downward trends. We can now confirm that India has become unmanageable. If it is not imploded in a controlled manner we are afraid China will chew it up and spit it out. Therefore, we urge the UN general assembly to put this high on their agenda and vote “YES” to further breaking up India. We further propose the following areas be amalgamated with Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and China. In God We Trust.
    Kashmir
    Bihar
    Punjab
    Himachal Pradesh
    Uttar Pradesh
    West Bengal
    Uttarakhand
    Rajasthan

We wish our friends in India God Speed and may the courage of Maoists bless its soul.

Did you ever learned to treat everyone same. Did you ever learned to have tolerance, compassion and respect towards others. I am posting all these comments, so that you guys learn something from it. But it looks like you guys have been brainwashed to an extent where there is no return. I pray to your God, that he helps people like you to believe in brotherly love and equal rights for everyone. Good luck to you. Saying the same thing 100 times does not turn a lie to truth

INDIA: On a Goat and a Stick:

The problem with India is that is built on a system of cultural and societal values based on Hinduism which is a cult. Nations built on a cult seldom survive in the long run. You can only take it so far based on symbolisms of a goat and a stick with a skinny little man aka gandhi banging boys at night and spinning wheels during daytime.

Since long in history never has a person, let alone a 14/15 year old girl, rallied so much emotion, support and good will as has Malala Yousufzai. Just listen to her CNN interview to appreciate her presence of mind, her brilliance, her tolerance and love for Islam. She embodies the very values that the civilized world craves for. I will never forget when her father said that when he looked in her eyes upon her birth he fell in love with her. There was something special in her. I can only imagine why. Speedy recovery to you, Malala. The world is praying for you

SHAME ON INDIANS..... For financing the terrorists waging this war. Shame on the Indians from running away scared from terrorists and taking bullets in their back. Shame on the Indians from counting the GDP statistics while American and Pakistani blood was being shed in the battlefield trying to make the world safe.
Is this the kind of neighbors you would want living next door to you and your kids??? HECK NOT IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD !!!!!

        INDIA: S@X WITH COWS
In many Hindu temples there are sculptures depicting men having s@x not only with men but also cows. What is the meaning of this? Is not the cow sacred? If it is, then it should be worshipped not s@xually assaulted!
can you shed some light? How many cows have you done in your pooja?

    AN INDIAN SAGA
HUMPTY DUMPTY: Had a great fall
India is pretty much done. The bubble has burst. India is sliding downhill at supersonic speed. GDP growth has disappeared...the only growth left is the hair between their legs. Inflation is in the clouds and India has asked Pakistan to help out. Pakistan has opened up Wagah Border to help Indians with food/goods etc. The Indian Rupee has collapsed against US $. US owns India financially now. As of last week the Indian bourse also collapsed.

Fareed's article here is great. I usually don't see eye to eye with him but this one is dead on. Unless moderate muslims, if they exist at all, take over their country, they don't exist at all.

LIPSTICK ON A PIG: The Story of India
There is only so much one can do to make a pig look pretty
Slapping some lipstick is the epitomy.
India is mired in sewage and poverty.
      GDP growth GDP growth
Has done nothing but made the people loathe.
Lipstick on a Pig is the Indian way
Either nukes will soon blow it away.
Or an implosion can perhaps ease the sway.

The statistics reported in this article are shocking: "Girls fare especially badly in Pakistan. There are only 79 Pakistani schoolgirls for every 100 schoolboys. In South Asia that number is 95, and in the whole world it’s 97." I would never have guessed that the gender gap is so bad – and the girls have to put their life on the line just to reduce that gap a little.

In the last two decades of economic debacle, 10 million girls have died due being aborted, buried alive, strangled, slowly starved orsimply thrown in trash in India.
SHAME ON INDIA AND ITS BARBARIC AND MEDIEVAL CULTURE !!!
Indians have killed more human beings (girls particularly) than Al Qaeda and Talibans put together.

I am absolutely astounded as to the amount of cultural depravity that is prevalent in India. I am further flabbergasted at the lack of empathy shown by the human rights group.First thing tomorrow morning I will make calls to US Dept of State and US Congress to have them start an investigation into the barbaric instances of women and child abuse in India. We need to stop all aid, tech assistance and job exportation to this country till their fix their country. The Indians are more backward than the talibans it seems.

Let us focus on the causes of terrorism and try to fix the issues. They have been hanging out there for over 60 years ...Palestine..Kashmir. Let us focus on the victims of 9/11 and help the families more than we have done. Let us take care of their kids and put them through college. Let us take care of their wives/husbands/parents. Let us take care of over 200,000+ families whose dear ones gave their lives in Pakistan fighting this terror war. Let us focus on the victims in Afghanistan. Let us honor those soldiers from all over the world who sacrificed their lives believing they were fighting for freedom. They are so many.
