Can America be fixed?

By Fareed Zakaria

As the United States continues its slow but steady recovery from the depths of the financial crisis, nobody actually wants a massive austerity package to shock the economy back into recession, and so the odds have always been high that the game of budgetary chicken will stop short of disaster. Looming past the cliff, however, is a deep chasm that poses a much greater challenge – the retooling of the country's economy, society, and government necessary for the United States to perform effectively in the 21st century. The focus in Washington now is on taxing and cutting; it should be on reforming and investing. The United States needs serious change in its fiscal, entitlement, infrastructure, immigration, and education policies, among others. And yet a polarized and often paralyzed Washington has pushed dealing with these problems off into the future, which will only make them more difficult and expensive to solve.

    Slow but steady recovery?
    Shurely you mean collapse?
The country has been 'recovering' since 2008 and is much worse off.
Why are you propogating government lies about the economy?
Its over. Finished. Dead. Kaput. Stiff as a board. Bleedin' demised. Passed on.
    Spare us your CFR propaganda

The United States of America is already fixed long time ago, by its establisher, Great Britain with Secret-coded formula.

However, it seems fragile by those whose pasts were affected, either in America or/and in some parts of Europe.

Those who have attached stigma, are working day/night to crumble the USA.

The United States of America, must turn itself to live upto its Foundation Fathers and must remain the HOLY LAND OF CHRISTIANS FAITH.
We Christians' are being kept prosecuted, everywhere, direct/indirectly.
The United States/Saints of America is our choice.

In a Jewish State, Christians are prosecuted, Churches are vandalized and Christians are murdered in a daily base by Jewish. But, the same Jewish are seeking a full protections for their evil acts in the United States of America and elsewhere.
Jewish wants America to shed its bloods for them.

'In God, We trust', must have a real and practical meaning.

    America = Christian only.

Otherwise, face the consequences of the crumbled states of America.

Long live, the founding Fathers' of United States of America legacies.

Can America be fixed? Of course it can, but won't as long as the public keeps on electing these right-wing fanatics(Republicans and "blue-dog" Democrats) into office time and time again! Unfortunately, the M.I.C. will continue with it's stranglehold on this government for a very long time to come!

How to fix America? Yes, learn from J@pan and avoid indulging in self-adulation. J@pan's gradual rise to economic power and fall have to do with its tradition-bound principles. Any structural reform needs to overcome its sclerotic mindset. Learn also from Brazil, a classic example for meteoric rise and abrupt fall and avoid the same mistakes.
Indeed China, Singapore and South Korea are going to overtake J@pan. These three have been able to learn from the US and J@pan. Moreover they try to improve what the others had failed.

We live in a complex society of competing beliefs only occasionally informed by facts as some of the observations above show. I certainly agree with the content of the article but wonder at how we, as a polarized citizenry and paralyzed federal government can move into the future successfully.

No and why would you want to? You're on year 50 of your hatred and condemnation of everything and anything that the US ever did which of course was the worst most evil thing ever. No, we're agreed that America must die screaming as our far left thought leaders tell us. Nuke America.

I can't offer any advice at this time. God will be the key to the successful solution. This much I am sure. At best, I see America as an island of prosperity that is more equally distributed, with no one being left out. If such thing happened, many of our problems would go away. But again, it will all be up to God and His people, nt the atheists who are now destroying America!
