Re. your answer to the question you posted on your GPS program today:
Who was the 1st American president to visit Russia?
You said Nixon.
What about Roosevelt at the Yalta conference?
I agree with Lili. The (left-to-right) photo of Churchill, Roosevelt, & Stalin at the February, 1945, Yalta Conference is well-known.
A caption said that Yalta was in the Soviet Union, not Russia. However, when Roosevelt visited Yalta, it was in the Russian Republic. Crimea (and thus Yalta) was transferred to Ukraine until 1954. So I believe the Roosevelt is the correct answer.
Your quiz question on this week's television show had an incorrect response. Amazing, since there are virtually no errors on GPS or on anything Fareed says. But this was a mistake. The first sitting American president to set foot in Russia was not Nixon, but FDR. It is a bit of a trick question, though. FDR was in Yalta, which is now part of the Ukrainian republic. At the time of the Yalta conference, however, the Crimea was part of the Russian Federation (it was called the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea). The Crimea was transferred to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954 as a magnanimous gift from the Soviet Union to the Ukrainian people. Given the collapse of the Soviet Union, this was one of the great Russian blunders of all time, even worse than Alaska, which at least they sold.
The quiz question this week had an incorrect answer. In February 1945, Roosevelt traveled to Yalta, in Soviet Crimea, to meet with Stalin and Churchill. The meeting was intended mainly to discuss the re-establishment of the nations of war-torn Europe.

The civil war in Lebanon did not start as a revolt against a ruling Christian minority. Please review the recent history. Up till the 1990s Christian sects formed a majority of the population. Lebanon was a representative democracy, and stil is. The Lebanese civil war had a complex beginning with many internal, and regional external factors against a weak fragmented central government. All these factors were wrapped with an explosive comprised of the heavily armed PLO, which literally was a nation within a nation. So please do not make factually errenous statements such as the one you made today.
