On GPS Sunday: The latest on Ukraine, and what happened to Middle East peace talks?

Watch "Fareed Zakaria GPS," Sundays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET on CNN

On GPS this Sunday: A live look at the latest on the unrest in Ukraine...and the larger East-West battle it has become.

Then, Middle East peace talks have collapsed. Why?  There are many reasons, of course, but at the heart of the problem lies one city – Jerusalem – which both sides claim. Fareed speaks with the mayor of Jerusalem to find out whether there might be a solution.

Also...a new United Nations report, the most exhaustive yet about climate change. GPS speaks with the New York Times'  Tom Friedman, who discusses what the world and the United States needs to do now.

And food critic and chef Anthony Bourdain offers his take on Russia and India among other destinations. GPS will talk with him about the politics and the food he explored for his upcoming series on CNN.

WHY is it that cnn hasnt posted a blog about the totally bungled search of Flight 370? This search has been screwed up almost from day 1. If they TRULY thought that plane plunged into the ocean they wouldve deployed underwater tracking devices. For instance subs. At the very least within short order like 2 or 3 days. Its been more than a month and it STILL hasnt happened! Sure doesnt instill much confidence in the competency of any and all airlines for certain! And even less for the countries search teams!

It's a shame that CNN uses one of the only true foreign policy news analysis programs (GPS) to promote their other news-entertainment shows like Anthony Bourdain (and the endless mostly meaningless coverage of flight 370 the past two weeks). One of the few time slots featuring intelligent discussion by knowledgeable people is wasted with the fluff that CNN must apparently put on the air to maintain their ratings. Those of us who enjoy sit through moderated analytic (and usually blessedly unemotional and objective) discussions about foreign affairs are not likely to give a damn about the subsidized travel of Anthony Bourdain. Nothing wrong with it if that's your taste, but it doesn't belong here.

Watching Tom Friedman famed scientist (not) expound on the Climate Change issue is to watch the equivalent of Putin explains how the Crimea belongs to Russia a totally one sided view with out any contrary one in sight. He advocates nothing less then the end of our market economy and complete control by tax and regulation of our economy And totally in the one sided view of the Climate Theologists. The UN report put forward by the One World Government people paints the same end of the world scenario that has been painted now by the CT's that still stubbornly refuses to happen and will not happen because it is a FICTION or hoax if you like! The huge rises in sea level? Not only never happened but there is dispute over whether there has been ANY sea level change! Huge rises in temps? Not only never happened there are those experts who say we may be going the OTHER way to cold! SO hands up by all that want Friedman or someone like him controlling our economy as they view things? I didn't think so me either! BYE TOM! Tom Claridge Monte Sereno, CA

Hurray, Tom. Fareed promised to have more of the un-scientist Tom Friedman on his show again soon. Mr. Zakaria, I urge you to broaden your horizons to include that leaking bundle of research on ocean temps and sun spot activity that DOES NOT support the global warming thesis. While Mr. Friedman may speak with authority on global political and social trends, his pegorative label of "climate denier" is so contradictory to the scientific method that his bias must be dismissed as misguided. Here is another source of "climate change" news that GPS might consult before it perpetuates the propeganda of Mr. Zakaria's former employer, the Council on Foreign Policy.

Your guest said he like congress to approve a 1 cent tax/ton on carbon emissions but he forgets is the Koch brothers who run that show. So it will never happen.

Thomas Freidman is a nut job ! I am sure the EU does not agree with his suggestion that Putin cut off over 30% of their current energy in light of the fact they are slowly working their way out of recession ! Btw The Union of Concerned Scientists view natural gas as a transition energy source from oil and coal to sustainable renewable energy . No amount of solar and wind energy would be able to satisfy the energy requirement of NYC ! We could save a little bit , however, by shutting down the ship of fools at the NY Times !

Tom Freidman says a lot of funny things, but this morning he out did himself. While complaining about government inaction with respect to global warming in one breath, in the very next he said that he was thinking about the issue as he drove to the studio....... Government inaction??

    Fareed,
We are long-time supporters of "Global Public Square, but I have comments on stories with Tom Freedman today, April 13:
As a long-time follower of the climate change debate and a reader of several of Tom Freedman's books, I have a disagreement with him, especially since today's show did an excellent job reporting what China is now doing to clean up its water and air pollution. However, your interview gave good proposals on how to clean up pollution in the U.S. but ignored the rest of the world where the most dangerous both air and water pollution is...
Despite improvement, China and India are building 100 new coal plants, according to today's New York Times, while we clean it up, the developing world continues to madly pollute. Please, ask Mr. Freedman, to try to stress this in his future reporting, especially as he is a noted and widely read global reporter. Enough said.

Today Fareed asked the mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, if he thought it would not be possible to have a Palestinian capital in east Jerusalem, which is where the Palestinians would like to put their state. Barkat responded that it is "against the DNA" of the city to have a divided Jerusalem and that "whoever raises such a demand doesn't understand the importance of the city of Jerusalem as a united city." I would be curious to know if that would still be his stance if the Arabs controlled all of Jerusalem, as they once did.

  15. GOP Prayer - GOPers, Read Together and Out Loud With Me

The GOP Prayer/Mantra/Solution: Dear God...With your loving kindness, help us to turn all the Old, Sick, Poor, Non-white, Non-christian, Female, and Gay people into slaves. Then, with your guidance and compassion, we will whip them until they are Young, Healthy, Rich, White, Christian, Male, and Straight. Or until they are dead. God...Grant us the knowledge to then turn them into Soylent Green to feed the military during the next "unfunded/off-the-books" war. God...Give us the strength during our speeches to repeatedly yell........TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH!!!..........and........GET RID OF SS AND MEDICARE!!!
In your name we prey (purposely misspelled, or is it?)........Amen

Thanks Fareed, I had a bet with my wife that you would compare Trump to the Nazi's this morning, you did not disappoint. While Trump is loose with facts and statistics, why say nothing about Obama's "red line, you can keep your doctor, J.V. team , ISIL containment, no credible threat", etc.? (That's a rhetorical question by the way.) The Trump phenomenon is explained simply. Obama has been and continues to be an unmitigated disaster rivaled only by Jimmy Carter, that other Nazi who put restrictions on Iranians both in and outside the country in 1978 and 1979.
