On GPS Sunday: Remembering fall of Berlin Wall, is Obama a Republican, and a Syria plan

Watch "Fareed Zakaria GPS," Sundays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET on CNN

On GPS this Sunday: First, Fareed offers his take on the implications of the midterm elections and why he believes President Barack Obama still has time to do big things over the next two years – especially in foreign policy.

Then, it is 25 years ago this Sunday that the Berlin Wall began to fall – an event that too much of the world by surprise. Fareed speaks with then-U.S. National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft and a former top British foreign policy advisor, Charles Powell.

Then, the economy, immigration, politics...How well do you know your world? GPS will share some sobering numbers on just how little many Americans (and others around the world) really know. See how you fair on the quiz here.

And, Fareed speaks with Bruce Bartlett, an economics columnist, author and historian who argued in a recent article in the American Conservative that President Obama is actually a  Republican. He’ll explain why.

Also, the White House appears to have no real solution for the ongoing crisis in Syria. Nor does the Republican Party. But Fareed will talk to a man who says he does – and he has ideas that seem to make a lot of sense.

A misnomer as you are still alive. You should be proud to hear about India as anyplace else. Why don't you participate in discussions rather than complaining about the contributions of others. If you don't agree then offer rebuttal. But don't expect to muffle people.

I personnally have nothing against the chinese other than their use of children to manufacture products for US Manufacturing corporations. And yea i know kids work in the US BUT...they need to get a work permit which has limitations, one of which is they must be at least 14!

I welcome the vision of the newcomers on this forum when they start talking about India desk and China Desk and I am sure soon to be European and Pakistan desks as well. This imparts a very productive direction and one away from pettiness of the past. Much success to all. Would like to see a clean community if you will.

@ Cristobal i do NOT like the filth talk that accompanies all conversation on these threads when speaking of india. And im not referring to what takes place in that country im talking about what specific people say to other bloggers on here regarding their private parts or their family members! It diminishes their IQ level considerably when they talk like filthy pigs!

However, yeah. President Obama *has* done some republican things. For example, president Obama his his immigration reform policy inside of the Obamacare package. Yup. And while you ripped O'care, he quietly got rid of over 3 million Mexican criminals. Who were either deported to Mexican prisons, or thrown into FEMA forced labor camps that ARE segregated. Not by skin color. By national origin. Most camps are for natural citizens, others are for illegals. Both work their asses off until all debts are paid.

Have you been claiming to be disabled but could really work? Are you collecting disability pay AND working for cash on the side? Well. Deliverance is near: Fraudulent workshy citizens being rounded-up and tossed into forced labor camps right now. German citizens didn't believe it about the concentration camps either. Nor will you.

...but it's true. Right now. President Obama has deported more Mexicans than any 3 presidents before him. And O'care cuts in half Big Pharma pharmaceutical sales. But ya'll are d'crats. D'crats only read mysteries and faux drama. And attend Shakesperian thingys.

Any foreign policy designed towards South Asia needs an awareness of the following.

Hindus in India have always supported the culture in power. Nazis, Soviet Communists and now The American Capitalists. That has been their secret to survival. They do that by wrapping hinduism as a cult that is appealing to your senses/emotions while inherently terror and evil laden. Example yoga, sadhuism, drugs, communal sayx versus..... Gang raipes, sati, devadasi, caste system, warriorism et al.

I wonder what they teach the kids in ashrams when their scriptures are laden with filth and terrorism.

China is the next and the only hope left for this world. The existing paradigm has failed. Poverty, schisms, conflicts, democratic demise is prevalent and the world is a divided place. We need change. Change from status quo. Change from the UN system. Change from current superpower imbalance and ineffectiveness.

Agreed. So, in this context, everything else becomes redundant and irrelevant. Whether China is masculine or feminine or whose daughter is in Harvard or Penn State etc. is of minimal importance. What is of importance is the fact that China has come a long way in the past 15 years.

First off, you are an uncouth terrorist person of India origin as you have admitted. On top of that you bring nothing to the table. You can't even write beyond a sentence and express yourself unless it is abusive. Grammar is not your forte. Try your native language. And english is not.

        November 8, 2014 at 9:22 pm |
      • banasy©

No, I'm not Indian. Sorry you cannot comprehend the written word.

I have not been abusive at all to you; that is quite laughable, given your frequent rants against people, such as your 8:34 pm post.

Oh, and English is my "native" language, having been born and raised in the United States; note the proper capitalization of 'English', which was noticeably absent whilst trying to accuse me of improper grammar and English usage.

I want to take a step back at this point and revisit the premise of American foreign policy as I believe in.

So just for the education of fellow netizens, a basic tenet of capitalism is the law of Supply and Demand. In other words, no one can stop a transaction when there is a willing buyer and a willing seller. That is the essence of a transactional foreign policy such as american.
