Remembering the day the Berlin Wall fell

Fareed speaks with then-U.S. National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft and a former top British foreign policy advisor, Charles Powell, about the fall of the Berlin Wall. Watch the full interview this Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET on CNN.

Why didn't the collapse of the Soviet Union result in bloodshed and war?

Scowcroft: Well, first of all, we didn't want it to, because what had happened before, every time there was any kind of an outburst in Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union would crack down, kill the leaders and even be more repressive than before.

So what we wanted to do was to keep indications of violence and dissent underneath the Soviet radar, and we tried very hard to do that. And when the announcement about the Wall came, President Bush Sr. was told by his press secretary, you're going to have to talk to the press. Everybody is wondering about this. So I said, well, we don't really know what the facts are.

But anyway, the press came into the president's office and he described what was happening and how uncertain it all was. After he finished that explanation, one of the members of the press said, well, Mr. President, you don't seem very elated. I would think you'd want to go over and dance on the Wall. And he said, well, I'm just not that kind of a person. What we were worried about was that this event would force Gorbachev to violence and all of the hopeful signs would be destroyed.

True, Duke. And the last enemy is currently being manufactured in underground facilities built during the phony Cold War. Thousands of odd looking flying machines to be launched and scare the world into a One World Power vs. Invading terrorists from outer space. I'm not joking either.

We need to learn from Berlin Wall and not put up a Blue and Red wall around our country. That is exactly what Bin Laden wanted.

You do not know Usama Bin Laden as well as his many wives did. Isn't it odd that his wives are never heard from? Never interviewed on TV. Everyone would watch. Wonder why it never happened.

There have been 3 wars between China and India. Sino-Indian War of 1962, the Chola War in 1967, and the 1987 Sino-Indian War.
In all these three wars India was comprehensively defeated and the Indian Army surrendered. In two of these wars the Indian Army was commanded by hindu generals. The last war had a Sikh general. Needless to say they were all cowards and surrendered to Chinese.

Simultaneously, on October 21, 1962 at 4:30 am the Chinese troops, in a blitzkrieg, overwhelmed the Indians in a series of flanking manoeuvres south of the McMahon Line and prompted their withdal from Namka Chu. Fearful of continued losses, Indian troops escaped into Bhutan and Tibet. Chinese forces pursued and captured thousands of Indian soldiers. Chinese forces now held all of the territory that was under dispute at the time of the Thag La confrontation, but they continued to advance into the rest of NEFA...

On 22 October 1987, at 12:15 am, Indian Army surrendered to Chinese Liberation Army. About 125,000 Indian soldiers were captured. This was a victory that propelled China into global leadership and a defeat for India that sealed its fate as a curmedgeon in world politics.

Hindus are busy scratching their balls and picking their nose while Chinese conquer their territories. Scratching their balls is second nature to Indian Hindus. They do it while bobbling their head side to side. They feel empowered during the scratching process and is akin to a dog taking a p iss against a lamp post

Thatcher and Mitterand called Gorbachev and asked him to not allow the rejoining of East and West Germany. There were 230,000 crack east german troops standing ready. Gorbachev told them to stand down with a promise from the west to keeping nato out of the old soviet block. Every American President since that time has failed to represent that promise. American foreign policy has continued to fail in promises. Like our early negociations with the plains indians promises from American politicians is worth less than the paper it is written on.

Lest we forget flight 007 that left Washington DC with congresspersons and entourage on board. And who stopped to refuel in Alaska with only congressman Larry Brown being transferred to the KAL 007 flight that got shot down over Soviet air space. And just days before McDonald had been subpoenaed to appear in LA District Court involving Reagan using McDonald's private info gathering firm in run-ups to race for Governor of Cali.

Mamas don't let your children dress like gang bangers, rather. The National Defense Authorization Act of Congress allows for US troops shooting terrorists on US soil the same as are praised for doing overseas. President Obama signed this bi-partisan Act of Congress into LAW. Beginning in January of next year, US troops will begin shooting gang bangers.

What are you complaining about, then? I should think you'd whole-heartedly approve of such a measure.
