Panetta on 'intelligence failure' over Paris attack

Fareed speaks with former CIA Director Leon Panetta about whether there was an intelligence failure over the attacks in Paris last week. Watch the full interview on GPS this Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET on CNN.

What was your sense of the quality of French intelligence? I mean one often hears that not only are they pretty good, but they're pretty aggressive. Would that be your sense?

Panetta: Well, there's no question that, I think, the failure to be able to have prevented the attack that took place in Paris was an intelligence failure. And I know they had these individuals on watch lists. I know that, in some ways, they were tracking them, but because of priorities or because of resources, obviously, they weren't aware that these attacks were going to be conducted.

I still have to wonder why certain people confuse "rebuttal" and "refuting" and "disagreement" with "throwing rocks" and "persecution."

    It is truly puzzling.

Ah, I've got the answer: because actually being self-aware is much harder than whining about imaginary rock-throwing.

Grill some ham. And make some potato salad. And take some spinach and blueberries with sliced almonds and sunflower seeds and make a side salad. Toast some wheat bread with cheese and mayo then stack ham. Enjoy.

When they say that your cooking stinks they are in fact throwing rocks at you in their tiny little minds.

What the hell are you talking about? Who said anything about your cooking at all?

Stop that man! says one man. And just then a very small dog bites at his ankles. Hardly a "rebuttal".

I'd posit it is vanity-writing on your part, giving you bragging rights that you're "published"; because everything you've written on this page has been completely nonsensical, understood only by you.

Umm. I said something about my cooking. But you did not hear. You have no ears. Only a big mouth. A very big mouth for a female.

I will ask you this again: who said anything about your cooking?

Unless you are throwing stones at yourself.

Am listening to your interview with Leon Panetta. So far I have not heard one single innovative idea. More intelligence, more cooperation and coming down hard are old cliches and have not solved the problems. I think that folks like Panetta are smart but don't have the courage to say the right things. Because criticizing the route causes of the world wide militancy is not politically correct.

panetta is still selling us on the notion we need more of an expansive and expensive police state and perpetual war. loss of liberties in the USA is not a solution. our overseas adventures that continually create more terrorists is not a solution. as fareed pointed out with facts that all terrorist attacks are directly reactions to USA military interventions in muslim countries.
panetta comes off as nothing other than a military and intelligence agencies stooge and we should avoid following his recommendations.
