(I am Russian from Germany. Sorry if you’ll find my English not quite up to the task)
I personally appreciate your GPS very much. For example I like so much the thoughtful constructive discussion with your panel last week (first part) ; second part (“Controversial” New York initiatives; Chine-Smokers) as well...
And yet imho sometimes some pieces of the GPS stuff is obviously just rubbish. (May be I am wrong. Maybe your goal there was to facilitate diplomacy, international relations… But means are somehow rubbish: Pompous, superficial interviews : there are no really deep thoughtful, scientifically acceptable or fact-based arguments. The only reason are famous names, categorical (but by no means convincing) claims like: “This person knows better “(Henry Kissinger); or “There is no doubt that person is sincere and competent (Gergiev)” .
In case of Gergiev part it is so grotesque, it made me sick. Because it’s cliché-pattern of hypocritical behaviour from Stalin time repertoire:
As you know (I hope) Stalin (whose Russian was really poor; In contrast, by the way, to Hitler known for his passionate, inspiring, inflammatory rhetoric) was officially:
the Greatest Soviet Scientist;
Greatest philosopher for all times and Nations;
Greatest Philologist,
Sophisticated Critic of all kinds of Fine Arts, Literature…
Loving Father of Soviet children (children Choirs including); (remember that famous photo with that cutest girl and lamb?). Looks like Gergiev’s Putin is speeding to become even brighter star than Stalin.
(Definitely Putin proved his excellence in rhetoric and may be even overshoot Stalin in that matter: “Всех… будем мочить в сортире!” Unfortunately I cannot expect from you to really appreciate this master piece of rhetoric. The whole beauty will be lost in translation. And! Believe me this is just the modest example which we were lucky to witness, the most sparkling virtuous speeches out of record. But if you are interested you can experience this Great Russian language some where in Russian jails.)
Facit: Be careful! Trying to facilitate diplomacy (which is great) sometimes you can unwillingly promote the ugliest and very dangerous Myths.
By the way, I personally would be excited if you didn’t cut short first part of your show (with your penal, but extend on the expense of Kissinger-part, and especially Gergiev. By the way I am great admirer of Gergiev-the-Artist.

Of course intolerance, nationalism, Nazism on rise in Russia, but mostly not in expansionistic manner , I would say mostly “internally xenophobic “.
An jet, unlike Ukrainians, who is so passionate, nationalistic about their independence, Russians (at the moment) pretty indifferent about Ukrainian independence, and their problems in general.
And after all we know: Real historical connections, reasons are of no importance for any nationalistic aggressive movements, they can easily invented in no time.
Russians have no less reason than in case of Ukraine to “care” about Baltic Countries, Poland, Finland, Central Asia, Caucasus ,… Alaska. In some of these cases the territories were the parts of Russian Empire for hundreds of years.
With other points revealed in your interview with Mr. Kissinger I would agree (many would ), but those ones were already well recognized.
