America should work to bring Asia into the club

By Fareed Zakaria

After World War II, the United States confronted communism, but it also built a stable world order by creating institutions that set global rules and shared power — including the IMF, United Nations and World Bank. The urgent task is to expand those institutions to include Asia’s rising powers.

If Washington does not do this, it will strengthen the voices, especially in China, who say that Asian countries should not try to integrate into a Western framework of international rules — because they will always be second-class citizens — and instead should bide their time, create their own institutions and play by their own rules. At that point, we will all deeply regret that we did not let these countries into the club when we had a chance.

Putting money and military aside for the moment, the BRIC countries alone represent about 41.35% of the world's entire population. So we're talking nearly 3 billion people with China making up about half of that. But more recently, our so called exclusive "club 300" appears to nothing more than high class in borrowed shoes financed by printed money and their "club 3000". So who are you trying to kid here? Looks like they've already been given all our jobs and gold to boot! What's next......? Martha ! Start packing, we're selling the farm!

Ancient empires once used slavery and the worship of god(s) to build entire civilizations complete with cities, massive pyramids, temples, palaces, etc. However all of their empires eventually failed thereby providing some valuable lessons for the builders of modern empire. Firstly, ya gotta use employees instead of slaves, and secondly, ya gotta worship money instead of god. So as long as your employees believe in your almighty dollar the'y'll continue to slave away.

GOP Prayer – GOPers, Read Together and Out Loud With Me
The GOP Prayer/Mantra/Solution: Dear God...With your loving kindness, help us to turn all the Old, Sick, Poor, Non-white, Non-christian, Female, and Gay people into slaves. Then, with your guidance and compassion, we will whip them until they are Young, Healthy, Rich, White, Christian, Male, and Straight. Or until they are dead. God...Grant us the knowledge to then turn them into Soylent Green to feed the military during the next "unfunded/off-the-books" war. God...Give us the strength during our speeches to repeatedly yell........TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH!!!..........and........GET RID OF SS AND MEDICARE!!!
In your name we prey (purposely misspelled, or is it?)........Amen

Again, Fareed Zakaria has it wrong. Quite the contrary, we Americans need to quit trying to bully the nations of Asia into joining this so-called "club" which is no more than the Pacific American empire in disguise. In other words, we must quit trying to dominate that part of the world as well as Europe where we have been highly successful as evidenced by the creation of the Eurozone.

Due to demographic shift and economic growth Asia dominates global affairs and it is more than fair to have Asians running the IMF or the World Bank in the future. The IMF has been run by a French national for 26 out of the last 33 years, taking the job in five out of the 11 managing directorships. Emerging economies in Asia and South America question the tradition of having a European in charge. Indeed, it's inconceivable that the congressional Republicans opposed to reform the IMF, as the US wouldn't lose its monopoly of the World Bank presidency.
