Will a former cricket star (and his supporters) topple the government and send the nuclear-armed nation into turmoil again? Fareed speaks with Husain Haqqani, former Pakistani ambassador to the United States, and CNN security analyst Peter Bergen.
“We must understand that these protests and the turmoil they have generated is just the symptom of a deeper, deeper disease,” Haqqani says. “The disease is that Pakistan's military has ruled Pakistan for more than half its life as an independent country. And in the other half, when civilians are allowed to govern, the military wants control of foreign policy and security policy.”
Also, Fareed speaks with CNN’s chief medical correspondent, Sanjay Gupta, about a new study suggesting that eating a low-carb diet is more effective not just for weight loss, but also for reducing your risk of heart disease.

I have been closely following the sit-ins and the ongoing anti-government movement in Pakistan over the last 3 weeks, and what I heard today on CNN today had nothing to do with reality. This movement led by Imran Khan, an ex-cricketer and Dr.Qadri are stating that the elections in Pakistan were rigged and the leaders are corrupt and they have provided amply proof of these allegations. But, that is not why I decided to comment here in this blog, CNN is least concerned about the truth and simply created a completely new story which none of the local Pakistani new channels, nor anybody in Pakistan has ever talked about, which makes me think, CNN is not real news, but just a propaganda machine based on lies and fiction, where the intent is simply to mislead the general public.

For many years I found GPS to be a unique program providing real news and interviews with people making the news. However for the last few months Fareed has fallen into the same unfortunate routine as other programs, providing a forum for the same tired guests who have no actual knowledge of the facts on the ground. The panel at the beginning of today's program is a case in point.

Fareed, I had confidence in your truthfulness until you stated your considered conclusion as to why the Arabs/Muslims hate us. More than anything else, It is clearly our longtime, unfailing, and slavish support of Israel against the Palestinians, a recent example of which was our re-supply of Israel with ammunition after the recent massacre of Palestinian civilians, including hundreds of children, in Gaza. To seek another principal reason for Arab hostility to the United States is disingenuous and pandering to Israel. I am disappointed in you.
You have to bear in mind, that Fareed Zakaria, being a brown-skinned Indian Muslim, at a high position, with his own GPS show, on CNN, which is watched throughout the world, does have to be careful. There are "secret" powers within, that have daggers in their hands, that are determined to unseat him, if he talks too strongly against "them", even if it is the truth. The same "powers" that quietly fired Piers Morgan, and sent him packing back to England, all because he spoke out so courageously against the gun lobby. All that "freedom" of speech, we like to say that we have, is not so "free" after all.

May I ask why there seems to be an assumption on the part of the Washington establishment the President Putin of Russia is seeking to expand Russian influence over the former Warsaw Pact countries, while we tend to downplay the central driving force of our own policy trying to extend US influence over these same countries? Since Kiev was the original capital of Rus 1,000 years ago, and four of the twelve hero cities of Russia in WWII are in Ukraine, one being Kiev itself and two others being in Crimea, couldn't one fairly conclude that that just perhaps there is more of an interest on the part of Russia in the fate of Ukraine than there is in the American play book?
