On GPS Sunday: Sony Entertainment CEO, and top panel discusses dramatic week

Watch "Fareed Zakaria GPS," Sundays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET on CNN

On GPS this Sunday: First, speaks with Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton about the controversy over the movie 'The Interview' and allegations that North Korea was behind the hacking of the company.

“I think actually the unfortunate part is, in this instance, the president, the press, and the public are mistaken as to what actually happened,” Lynton says. “We do not own movie theaters. We cannot determine whether or not a movie will be played in movie theaters.”

Next, it has been a dramatic week in world affairs – and it’s not just about North Korea. There was the unexpected news about Cuban-American relations, the collapse of the Russian ruble, and the shocking attack at a school in Pakistan.

Fareed convenes a panel of top analysts including New America Foundation President Anne-Marie Slaughter, Council on Foreign Relations President Richard Haass, Rana Foroohar, Time's assistant managing editor for economics, Wall Street Journal columnist Bret Stephens.

Well, it hasn't been a slow news week. Thats for sure.
Hopefully the movie "The Interview" will play itself out and become true.
Then with the death of Kim there will be less starving people in the NK.

It is news chrissy. It is like our Great Depression in the 1920's.
Imagine homeless families and single mothers losing their jobs.
Or people letting go of their pets cause they lost their homes.

Or beautiful desparate russian babes in need of a man like me.

It was reported that NYC policemen behaved disrespectfully toward their mayor, turning their backs on him at a hospital.
I am not sure that report was accurate, as I wasn't there, but if policemen did that, I don't think it was very nice of them.
The mayor is their boss, you know.
I am sure that it was a misunderstanding.

I think joey that the mayor of nyc is bad as he sides with the protesters against the police. He is an ignoramus.

A few days ago philip said that real men don't need to go to the gym. "Only girly men like Joey go." The real observer said to Philip "You only wish you could be in the shape that Joey is when you get his age."

Thank you rupert. I had missed @ Philip's advice to me,
I am surprised to hear that my gym workouts are not wise. Perhaps I should it go there anymore.
Thank you, @ Philip. Be blessed.

Raipes are a celebration of hinduism in India. It is the very fabric of Indian hindu culture.
It has been going on for 5000 years.

This cancer is now spreading into neighboring countries. It is also being exported to western nations where hindus migrate to.

Singapore recently arrested and deported thousands of hindus for raipes and terror.

It is bad enough that these girls were gang raiped. On top of that these hindus hung them on a mango tree. Then they were burnt up post death. How can one even begin to justify this with a conscience? This is so egregious.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday took suo moto cognizance in gang-raipe and murder of two minors in Uttar Pradesh in India.

    Re: Sony Pictures CEO.

First of all, this isn't the Cuban Missile Crisis. A private company got hacked.........again.
Second, Sony pictures will (in the end) make more money on this goofy movie than they could ever have predicted as a result of the silly media frenzy.
Finally, I'd fire the CEO so fast it would make his head spin. His 90% comment indicating that their Security was sufficient was so idiotic that it deserves special mention. His company has been threatened repeatedly for a year concerning this matter so maybe he should have implemented a security program that the remaining 10% of companies have. Duh.

Sony released theaters from their contract to show all Sony movies. Why was this not discussed? Fareed, you blew this one.

Michael Lynton says Sony can't release the film online right now because they don't control any distribution channels. Michael, ever heard of the Playstation Network?

I totally agree @ Jason Horn! He should be held accountable for the danger all his employees must now face because their information wasnt secure. When in fact, Sony knew in advance that this was an issue!

President Obamma feels SONY made a mistake...."crying uncle" and not standing behind the right to FREEDOM OF SPEECH. I cite this excerpt below to illustrate the White House's reaction to another film (though the arrest following that video was said to be for reasons of probation violations.....)

"After Benghazi, the administration was evidently filled with a fierce resolve — to bring Nakoula Basseley Nakoula to justice. Charles Woods, the father of a Navy SEAL killed in Benghazi, said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told him when his son’s body returned to Andrews Air Force Base: “We will make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted.”
