New York, New York, is, uh, changing.
When I was a teenager in Mississippi, I knew that out there in the real word I would need to speak at least two languages, English and French, to do well. Working in opera, I had to learn Italian, as many Italian singers did not speak English when they first moved to America, and I wanted to work well with them.
Now, New Yorkers must frequently speak Spanish, or its DR derivative, to get along in Manhattan.
I do not believe that many New Yorkers will speak English - any form of real English - or French fifty years from now.
"...the real world," not "the real word."
