At my birthday party last week, I received two excellent tomes. Scribner's published one of them, edited by Maxwell Perkins and containing many grainy photographs, LET US NOW PRAISE FAMOUS LESBIANS. The other is a book of poetry. I love this line:

Fareed is being dishonest by implying that the Gita Bhagavad is the ONLY source of law in Hindooism. Many things don't appear directly in Gita Bhagavad but are considered a part of hindoo law and hindutva jurisprudence. The sources second only to Gita B are the Ramayana tales, and as an Indian, Fareed knows this to be true. And in Ramayana several examples are given Lord Shiva ordering the killing of those who mock or satirize him in poetry or other forms. These sanctioned killings forever enshrined the practice of death to blasphemers as a legitimate part of hindutva law. Those who are denying this are being willfully dishonest or are simply ignorant.

Child Marriage – Girls are to be married when 5 years old !

Dowry – Vedas (Hindu holy script) prescribes this practice

Bride-Burning – if the dowry is insufficient burn her alive.

No Property, burn her alive.

Mass Wife-Burning (Jauhar) – Often 100s are burnt at a time.

Widow-Burning (Sati) – Sanctioned by the Vedas, Puranas, practiced by Hindu Lord Krishna's wives, it still continues in India to this day.
