I understand that we, the U.S., started bombing Syria in support of the Syrian people, who wanted to remove a brutal dictator, Asad. Now ISIS, fills the vacuum and controls territory in Syria and Iraq and the bombings and atrocities multiply. The people after seeing the atrocities, their city reduced to rubble and tens of thousands killed are fleeing the country in droves. Now the U.S. doesn't want to take in refugees? Were we really trying to help the people? While I believe thorough vetting of refugees is wise, I don't think this is helping our image in the middle east.

Dear Mr. Trump:
If you care so much about the veterans, why don't you donate 99% of your money to that cause. Someone more of a man than you could ever be donated 99% of $45 billion dollars to many good causes.

Suggestion for an entire GPS segment: focus the segment on this question: "Assuming the U.S./NATO/others engage ISIS militarily and defeat it, what will then be required to create a stable government in Syria that will protect and provide for its people and thereby prevent terrorists from using Syria as a base?" Related questions might include: How many troops would it take to occupy Syria and how long would they need to be stationed there? How much would it cost for the occupation, the rebuilding of Syria's economy, and the creation of a stable government? These and other important questions could be addressed by the best military, economic, and political minds. Policymakers and political candidates don't appear to be examining these questions sufficiently. And yet it is crucial to have this conversation in order for the American public to understand what it would take to root the terrorists out of Syria and create a lasting peace in Syria so that other terrorists would not be able to use Syria as a base for their operations.
The best thing we can do for Syria is to recognize the Assad regime as the only legal government Syria has and to join the Russians and the Iranians in their efforts to defeat ISIS. In other words, we need to quit trying to take over other countries, especially the Muslim ones. This is what helps ISIS.
